Story
The Centurion Papers is a thrilling new series of Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Too explosive for publication, kept hidden for a hundred years...until now. When Lady McMillan’s beloved pet parrot, Rodney, goes missing along with the scullery maid, she enlists the help of Holmes and Watson to track down the kidnapper and bring Rodney home. The mystery, however, is far murkier than it first appears, and the stakes are ever so much greater than the safe return of a stolen bird.

Story
For all we know, or think we know, about Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, what we don’t know is far, far greater. In the duo’s first case, A Study in Scarlet, we learn that Holmes and Watson met on January 1st, 1881, and subsequently moved into an apartment together at 221b Baker Street. Their first case officially began on March 4th of that year, and it is argued that “The Adventure of the Resident Patient” possibly took place in October of 1881, depending on which version of the story you read. But what happened during the rest of 1881? Or all of 1882?

There is a persistent and incorrect idea, reinforced by countless film misrepresentations, that Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were always staid and dull British chaps of middle years (or older), with Holmes a spry, cranky, and impatient eccentric, and Watson a white-haired and portly Boobus Brittanicus, a la Nigel Bruce. Students of the true and Canonical Sherlock Holmes know this to be a falsehood.

Story
In the 1980s and 1990s, the late Terry Golledge wrote 10 Holmes masterful pastiches that perfectly captured Dr. Watson's voice, as well as Holmes’ personality and methods. Mr. Golledge passed away in 1996, before these stories could be published. In early 2022, Terry’s son, Niel Golledge, reached out to Sherlockian editor David Marcum, who was electrified to read such wonderful previously lost tales about the heroes of Baker Street.

Seven tales that have appeared in various anthologies, including the MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories, from master pastiche author Arthur Hall. A client who is uncertain of his brother's demise; a priest with a curious accent; a headless body recovered from the Thames. Is Holmes correct in deducing that these things indicate a threat to the prime minister? Why is Mr. Michael Burlott constantly stalked by a man he does not know? The Whitechapel murders continue. Is the murderer known as Jack the Ripper still at large?

Story
Sherlock Holmes is a Yorkshireman, born and brought up on the North York Moors, but he spent much of his life at 221B Baker Street in London. He is more than a character from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's imagination. For many thousands of followers, he still lives in their minds through films, television, stage and radio plays, and written stories. Ever since Holmes first appeared in print, people have used the stories, together with knowledge of the culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, to speculate about his life. They wanted more than the 60 stories in the Canon.

Publisher's summary
The Centurion Papers is a thrilling new series of Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Too explosive for publication, kept hidden for 100 years...until now.
For the first time in audiobook, stories one to four are collected together in one volume!
"The Devil's Mark"
London is ablaze with horror! A plague of ghastly deaths sweeps the capital, seemingly unrelated except for a strange tattoo found on the body of each victim - the mark of Satan. As a God-fearing mania engulfs the city, Sherlock Holmes must hunt the villain responsible for wreaking terror on its dark streets - a hunt that will bring him face-to-face with the devil himself.
"The Scorched Earth"
An old soldier haunted by the ghosts of war in Africa, a vengeful enemy hell-bent on righting the wrongs of the empire, and an island hiding the darkest of secrets.... Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are in a race against time to solve the brutal mystery of the scorched earth - before an entire family is murdered.
"The Willowden Sirens"
Edwardian society is utterly bewitched by sensational photographs of fairies at play in a country idyll. But when a high-ranking diplomat is found dead in that very garden, Sherlock Holmes is called upon to solve the murder. Even as the evidence suggests the victim was killed by fairies, can Holmes finally expose the truth...however dark it might be?
"The M League Professor"
Moriarty is dead, but his legacy of evil lives on.... Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are woken by the most macabre delivery to Baker Street - a boy left for dead, with the letter M scored into his back. He is the first of many victims, and Holmes will be next unless he can put an end to the most dangerous network of criminals ever assembled - a network that stretches to the very highest echelons of society.
The First Collection compiles four stunning new episodes in the Sherlock Holmes canon from Dr. Watson’s recently found Centurion Papers - uncovered by the Davies brothers, authors of Hudson James and the Baker Street Legacy.

Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. Story
Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.

Story
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Good entry in the Sherlock Holmes pastiche canon
All but the final story in this book are strong pastiches, very engaging. The narrator is excellent and carries the collection well. The book has several technical flaws that tend to break the flow of the stories. However, overlooking these, the collection is entertaining and enjoyable.
