About this listen

Did you ever wonder where Sherlock Holmes found the Persian slipper he keeps his shag tobacco in? Had Holmes and Watson ever met before that day at St. Barts? Did Holmes really believe in curses when he said he did?

Dr. John Watson reveals the answers to these questions in The Persian Slipper and Other Stories, along with cases involving the putative Naval Man, a night spent at a gentlemen’s club, Holmes’ second marriage proposal, a movable tree, and a surprising wedding ending.

Eight traditional pastiches with a touch of fantasy here and there were published in Holmes anthologies at Belanger Books in the US and MX Publishing in the UK. Brenda Seabrooke is the author of 22 books—mostly mysteries—for young readers and many stories in anthologies and literary journals. She has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Robie Macauley Award from Emerson College and was a finalist for the Edgar Allan Poe Award at Mystery Writers of America.

Entertaining stories! Good narration with unique voices and good measure and phrasing. A little light on disclosed or obvious sherlocian deductions, but enjoyable nonetheless. Recommended.

The stories in this volume were: wonderful, creative, thoughtful and smooth.Sherlock Homes and Doctor Watson are even caring for the staff of various aristocrats and other people of privilege. Smooth the casual way the author, Brenda Seabrooke handles the origin of the Persian Slipper. Loved it!!!

The narration was a near perfect match for these well done Sherlockian pastiches and I loved listening to all of them. The stories themselves were good, but very quick (cramming 8 shorts into 6 hrs) and reminiscent of old time classic radio programs (so there was a certain appreciation for the nostalgia). The only critique I was bring would be that the audible index doesn’t really help you identify the individual stories (just chapter numbers and the book title).

Preface - The Stage is Set (Poem)
Chapter 1 - The Marzando Matter (Sherwin Soames" & “Ian Dotson”) ****
Chapter 2 - The Persian Slipper
Chapter 3 - The Curse of Barcombe Keep
Chapter 4 - The Nautch Night Case w/ The Recipe
Chapter 5 - The Naval Man
Chapter 6 - Tableau of Death
Chapter 7 - The Case of the Spanish Bride
Chapter 8 - The Case of the Accused Cook

I was given this free advance listener copy (ALC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

These stories were fantastic! I loved them all and hope there are lots more! I especially enjoyed "Sherwin Soames" & “Ian Dotson". Holmes and Watson are just as I like them, the mysteries are great, and there is a bit of humor. Kevin E Green's narration is delicious.

Love the Holmes and Watson stories

The game is afoot! This was a great collection of 8 short stories featuring the great detective, Sherlock Holmes, once again written by Dr. Watson. The author has done a great job in capturing the feel for the original works by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and any Holmes fan would be well served in reading this book. All of the familiar characters make an appearance in at least one of these stories and I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the French detective who perfected a disguise as a moveable tree!

The narrator does a great job and his voices for the different characters are perfect and added a lot to my enjoyment of the stories. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook by the narrator/publisher/author and chose to review it.
