About this listen

In a quiet corner of northern Edwardian England, Margaret Lounsbury diligently works in her grandmother's millinery shop, making hats and caring for her young sister. Several years earlier, a terrible event shattered their idyllic family life and their future prospects. Maggie is resilient and will do what she must to protect her sister Violet. Still, the loss of her parents weighs heavily on her heart as she begins to wonder if what happened that day on the lake...might not have been an accident. When wealthy inventor and industrialist William Harcourt dies, his son and Maggie's estranged childhood friend, Nathaniel, returns from his time in the Royal Navy and inherits his father's vast estate, Morningside Manor. He also assumes partial control of his father's engineering company and the duty of repaying an old debt to the Lounsbury family. But years of separation between Nate and Maggie have taken a toll, and Maggie struggles to trust her old friend. Can Maggie let go of the resentment that keeps her from forgiving Nate - and reconciling with God? Will the search for the truth about her parents' death draw the two friends closer, or leave them both with broken hearts?

I have found a new author I really like. this book is a reminder that god works all things out for good...even the horrible things that happen in our lives will do so if we trust in him. I highly recommend this book to one and all. again what a relief to to listen to a clean book with a mystery that will keep you rivited from beginning to end. I am eagerly awaiting for audible to produce more books by this author.

This is the first Carrie Turansky book I have listened to. I enjoyed it very much.
Maggie and Nate were childhood friends. Her father worked for his father until tragedy strikes. Maggie and her sister are mistreated by Nate's family, while Nate is kept away. It is only when Nate returns, after his own father's death, that he reconnects with Maggie. He does not understand Maggie's mistrust and negative feelings and will do anything to help her. What follows is Nate and Maggie searching for the truth. I won't give spoilers. If you like this time period, this is a MUST LISTEN!

I listened to this on a road trip which required me to press pause a couple of times. I couldn't wait to get back to the car and turn it back on.

The narrator did make a couple of mistakes, but her overall performance was okay.

ok story. had a hard time getting into it. the narrator was kind of bland and put me to sleep. alson there was very little difference between the charachters voices so it made the story harder to follow

not my favorite narrator

What a great story of mystery, faith and yes, romance. Loved it!! Usually I have trouble with English accents but this narrator was perfect.

Great book

Another great story by Carrie with uplifting messages as people walk their journeys of faith. Good variety of characters. I love how she always has several romances going.

The narrator was okay once you get used to her. Her tone and accent are interesting. Sort of sounds like she's talking around a bubble in her throat. Her acting is fairly good. I thought one character sounded much older than she was. A little monotone at times, but not annoyingly so.

Great story

Same female character is called grandfather as often as grandmother This was So confusing at first but then it was just SO ANNOYING!! her enunciation was certainly problematic at other times but nothing like calling grandmother grandfather

"Grandfather Grandmother" narrator can't decide
