About this listen

When Laura McAllister, a young lady's maid, learns her three siblings have been taken from their mother and emigrated to Canada without her mother's knowledge, she becomes determined to search for them and reunite the family. But a lack of funds and resistance from authorities push her to use a false name and take a position with a child emigration society to gain passage to Canada.

Andrew Frasier, a wealthy young lawyer, is surprised to see his mother's former maid on board a ship escorting a group of child immigrants, especially when she uses a different name. He's even more surprised when he learns that she's tracking down her siblings and attempting to save the other children from a horrendous fate. Romantic feelings grow between this unlikely couple, and even though they have different backgrounds, they share a growing faith and a desire to seek justice and relief for the children who are being mistreated.

While the story was interesting and heart warming the amount of references to loving and believing in God was a bit over the top for me.

Heart Warming BUT

wow what story I couldn't stop reading I gave it 4 stars because after all that Laura and her friends went through to find Katie it's like the story ended there what about Garth and Grace story with no epilogue it's a unfinished story the narrator did a excellent job

The story told felt very personal to me. It’s hard to believe my great grandmother went through this voyage.

We did not know until she was dying. She shared her story and everyone was shocked.
Since then family members have visited the home she came to upon her arrival in Canada.

My great grandmother was one of the children

Carrie Turansky crafts another great story, this time about British Home Children separated from their families and sent to Canada. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing them grow through their challenges. Story includes faith, mystery, romance, and adventure. The audio reading is good, switching between British and American accents quite well. I will be glad when the sequel is released!

Another excellent story

This was a very good book to listen to. A heart-wrenching story of children forced into an orphanage when their mother was ill, sent to Canada, then separated. I loved everything their older sister, Laura, did to find them.
The narration was very good too.
I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I loved this book. Before reading it, I had never heard about British Home Children. The story was very moving, and I can't wait for the next book. The narrator Colleen Pendergast did a terrific job. Worthy of five stars!

Loved it so much, I can't wait for the sequel. i find myself thinking of the characters as friends, wondering what is going to happen next. Love that the word of the Lord and Jesus' teachings are woven into the storyline. Then you add the historical aspect, it is a great read!

great story

Ah, well-written historical fiction is so satisfying! Carrie Turansky has swept me into another world and educated me about a fascinating part of history. This book was never painfully predictable, never preachy or trite, never sappy or overly sentimental. The story was compelling from start to finish and the ending left me smiling. So nice to have a skilled voice actor to read the story, too!

Pleasantly Surprised!

I enjoyed the story; it reminded me of the orphan train stories. It evoked lots of emotions and I cheered at Laura's determination and perseverance in trying to find her siblings. I am glad she also had a part in. changing the follow up of child placement.

No greater love than family
