About this listen

What and who should get the best of us? And why is it so enticing to choose lesser things instead of lasting things?

As moms, we know the magnetic pull to steer away from what's important and choose what feels irresistible in the moment. In Shiny Things, Amanda Bacon and Anne-Renee Gumley bring to light the distractions moms face every day.

Honoring God and loving our families are our highest priority, but sometimes, we need help keeping them there. For all of us who find ourselves caught in the cycle of distraction but are looking for a way out, Shiny Things will help us:

  • Identify the threat of distractions so we can learn to live with intention
  • Resist the pull to be interrupted by nonessentials and focus on God and our priority people
  • Live free from distraction with hearts turned Godward in all we do

It's never too late to take hold of what's most important. Today's a great day to start.

Avoiding Parenting

This Biblical view on parenting convicts and equips how NOT to avoid parenting. The books subtitle says "mothering" but could easily be replaced with "parenting". We justify so many of our actions (including sacrificing our children in the name of ministry) that we overlook or avoid the hardest task God gave us, bringing up our children in the love and admonition of the Lord. This text points out blind spots that take us away from intentionally parenting. It also encourages and sheds Biblical perapective on God's will for all parents.

helped me realize I need to make changes

I found this book because I knew I needed to make changes in my parenting and this book affirmed what I already knew. I did enjoy the read and found it a good kick in the rear, but I wish there was more practical help in how to achieve a more present parenting life and also how to tell when it is the time to get your spiritual time for yourself and when it's the time to be present with my family.
