About this listen

Shoes is an inspirational story about Carla, a young woman who becomes a single parent when her husband walks out on her after their baby is born, then battles bouts of depression while trying to give her daughter the life she deserves.

Three years later Vince decides he wants his daughter for the day to celebrate her third birthday that, like her other birthdays, he missed. Carla has reservations, but wanting Megan to know her father, she allows Vince to take Megan home.

He locks Megan inside a large dog crate, ignoring the child all day, then takes off to the bar with friends. When time comes to take Megan home, he is drunk and has an auto accident. Megan survives, but she now walks with a significant limp and her learning abilities are slower.

At six years old, possessing wisdom beyond her years, Megan surprises her mother time and again by her logic, and her determination to not let her disability get her down.

Learning from her daughter, Carla once again believes love does exist.

With Megan playing matchmaker, Carla finds true love with her daughter's doctor, a man who knows discrimination.

Megan keeps the family strong, continuing to teach her mother and new father valuable life lessons.

A Very Special Gift

If you could sum up Shoes in three words, what would they be?

sadness, loneiness, happiness.

What about Elaine Baden’s performance did you like?

The way she describes the story. She is an excellent story teller and brings the characters to life. She has an aesthetic for describing the scenes perfectly.

If you could take any character from Shoes out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would take out Megan, she is a very special little girl and kids do say the darnest things.!!!!!

Any additional comments?

Author Sue Julsen and Elaine Baden have done a wonderful job sharing a very special story of love and happiness.

Highly Recommend !!!!

Shoes

Would you consider the audio edition of Shoes to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the printed version, so I can't answer this.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shoes?

When Jeff gave Megan her first pair of shoes.

Have you listened to any of Elaine Baden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes
This one was much better I felt.

Who was the most memorable character of Shoes and why?

Megan because even though she had difficulties she was wise beyond her years. An amazing little girl who grew into an even more amazing young lady.
