Publisher's summary

He leads the league in scoring. My heart won’t give him another shot.

I swore I’d never come back to Denver.

I’d never trust the wrong man again.

But here I am, back in the same place as the bad boy athlete who broke my heart.

Clay rules the basketball court, and now he’s gunning for redemption. But I'm not the same girl who fell for the man behind the all-star image and reputation.

He made me want him like I’ve never wanted anyone.

He made me feel like I was the only thing that mattered.

A single look can make me ache.

A whispered promise in his gruff voice makes my chest tight.

Clay’ll do anything to prove we’re worth another shot.

Shot Taker is a full-length grumpy sunshine sports romance and book 2 in the King of the Court series. Clay and Nova’s story begins in Game Changer and concludes in Play Maker.

Nailed it

Audio review Carly nailed it and does a great job. Lance at times did not do for me. The story itself, I enjoyed except I really do not care for her sister and Harlan at all. I think they are manipulative and judgmental. It is because of them that some of the problems the MCs are having exist. I rounded up

Things are heating up

Well, I thought Game Changer had my emotions running wild, but Shot Taker takes it up a notch. Clay and Nova are so good together that you can't help but root for them. There's a magnetic pull between them that seems to keep pulling them back into each other's orbit.
And then Piper Lawson wields her mighty pen and throws a twist at their HEA. So, I don't want to give too much away; just be prepared and keep in mind that there's a reason this is part of a trilogy. At this point, I'm thoroughly invested in Nova and Clay. I will say that based on my experience with Piper Lawson's work, this couple's journey may take a few wrong turns - they might even take the scenic route - but their final destination with be worth every drop of angst.
Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins continue their performances in this second book, and they do an excellent job. The story heats up in this one, and the narration is so good that I thought my cellphone was gonna start smoking. Let's just say that when Lance Greenfield purrs a particularly sexy line, it'll give ya a little tingle.
So, start with Game Changer and follow Clay and Nova on their journey. It's a curvy trip, but it's so very good.

Loved!!!

This is part 2 of 3 in Piper Lawson's King of the Court series. These books NEED to be read in order.

This book covers what happens when Nova comes back to Denver after all that goes on in book one. It picks up pretty much right where book book one ends. This book had me just as transfixed and caught up in the story as the first book. I listened to it all in one sitting and wanted morewhen it was done.

Once again both narrators did an amazing job bringing this book to life.

I was given this audio book to review and I am leaving this volinarily.

Great book 2!

Nova and Clay's story continues in book 2. Just as we think that these 2 are going to make a move together and thing will really start to work out for them, the wheels fall off. Clay returns to the jerk he was before and Nova leaves him to go home. Then the unexpected happens and she's headed back to Denver, where of course she runs into Clay.

This story is about figuring out how Clay can win Nova back and if he messed things up beyond repair. We start to see Nova really come into her own and showing what she can do. Her talent really shines through.

This was a really good second book of their story and I can't wait to finish it!

The narrators once again pulled me in and kept me interested throughout the story.

Sports Romance

Shot Taker by Piper Lawson is a grumpy sunshine sports romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins. This is the second book in the King of the Court series.

I am really enjoying the relationship between Clay and Nova. Their relationship is messy, but I can't help but root for them. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book.

The book ended on a great cliffhanger. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series Play Maker so I can get more of their story.

Lance and Carly did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this series if you’re looking for a grumpy sunshine romance, sports romance, or contemporary romance.

Angsty, drama-filled story!

Shot Taker, an Audiobook by Piper Lawson is the story of Clay and Nova. They were an item years ago, but everything changed. Now, Nova has been commissioned to complete a mural for Clay’s professional basketball team. But, the angst, tension, and turmoil between these two is palpable. Can they even work around each other after all that’s happened.

We travel through the emotions of these two and how they handle every thing…Nova is strong, determined, and gutsy for even attempting to do this, since it can bring her career into he ozone. Clay is trying to build his team and deal with the hurdles that come with that…plus, now there’s Nova.
Thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining story!!! Ends in a pretty major cliffhanger!

This Audiobook was narrated by Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins who do a fine job portraying the characters and their angst. Though it felt a little stilted at times, overall they did an incredible job with this drama-filled story!

Emotional and sizzling love story!

I loved this continuation to Clay and Nova's emotional and sizzling love story. Nova is back in Denver after the Kodiak's owner hires her to paint a mural in their stadium. She hoped she could be in and out before running into Clay after he broke her heart. Clay hates what he did to Nova and when he see's her again, he is determined to win her back. I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship. Lawson took her time to allow them to heal and grow stronger. I really loved Nova's resilience, and how she became more confident in her artwork and herself. This story took some twists and turns, cranking up the emotions, and with some heart pounding secrets and revelations, I’m completely riveted trying to figure out how their love story will play out.
Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins continue their wonderful narration of this story. They do a great job evolving Clay, and Nova's turbulent relationship thru their rollercoaster journey making me feel all the angst, heartbreak, and passion they felt. I was completely captivated by their performance. The ending left me stunned and I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Another fun read

Shot Taker is book 2 in the Kings of the Court series. This sports romance is a continuation of Clay and Nova’s book. I loved getting to see a softer, vulnerable side to Clay as he fought to win Nova’s heart. The chemistry can still be felt between the two and I loved as their connection continued to grow. I enjoyed the groups witty banter. Another well written story. Can’t wait to see how their journey ends.

Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins did another great job portraying these characters.

Oh the challenges these characters face

Ahhhh ok the second book of this pair have me still hanging on by a thread. I need more immediately. I cannot wait to see what happens next. These two seem to keep getting themselves in situations they weren't expecting and it is causing blocks for them to find their true happiness with each other. I really love the grovely ways that Clay tries to get back in the good graces with Nova. I loved seeing their relationship develop more in this book and cannot wait to see how they take on this next challenge.

Loved it

Even better than book one. I am loving this series and can’t wait for book 3. The character development was fantastic. I loved the new sides of Clay that we got to see, particularly him trying to make up for his previous mistakes with Nova definitely gave me 😍 for him. The banter with side characters was a definite highlight.

I loved this book and am waiting on pins and needles for the third installment.
