About this listen

From the #1 bestselling billionaire romance author of Black Ties & White Lies comes an all new series set at an exclusive country club in the Hamptons. In Good Company is an ex's brother, billionaire, private chef, forced proximity romance.

Callahan Hastings is relentless when it comes to getting what he wants, and what he wants is me–to be his private chef in the Hamptons for the summer.

My dream job served to me on a silver platter by one of the wealthiest members of Pembroke Hills Country Club.

The only catch? He’s my ex-boyfriend’s older brother with a reputation for being as charming as he is cunning.

But Cal doesn’t take no for an answer. He draws you in with flirty smiles and extravagant promises.

I should have seen him coming, but I didn’t. I should have stayed away, but I couldn’t.

His playful touches and burning gaze have ignited a fire in me. The more I resist him, the more irresistible he becomes.

I've always known there's an expiration date on the job–an expiration date on us.

But leaving isn't going to be easy with Cal on his knees, begging me to stay...

Fun read!

The story was cute & The duet narration was done very well. Perfect to be read as a palate cleanser or something light and easy if that’s your speed.

Workplace Romance

This story started well but went downhill after Lucy and Cal gave in to their mutual lining. Cal falls first, and Lucy needs to work on her communication skills. I’d recommend reading about Margo and Beck from Black Ties and White Lies for an ex-brother romance over this.

I love these narrators. I did not like Lucy. Lucy to me made this story unbearable!

This story was sweet and spicy. Cal is a percect book boyfriend. I thought the dual narrator was done perfectly!

Connor Crais narrating

I wasn’t a huge fan of the story. Just not my vibes really but I will listen to just about anything that Connor Crais narrates. I really enjoyed him in this book and the only reason I continued to even read it.

Slightly Missed the Mark for Me

I really wanted to love this one—and for the first quarter, I kind of did. The setup had so much potential: flirty banter, tension you could cut with a knife, and a juicy premise. Cal is a charming, spoiled (but mostly sweet) billionaire summering in the Hamptons. Lucy is the ex-girlfriend of Cal’s brother, working as a caterer to pay off her dad’s medical bills before returning to Virginia to run the family business. When Cal sees how poorly her boss treats her, he makes her an offer she can’t refuse—and she accepts, despite the complicated history and her not-so-secret attraction to him.

The chemistry? Undeniable. The spice? Hot—easily a 4/5. But the actual relationship just didn’t work for me. Cal falls into insta-love territory pretty fast, constantly doting on Lucy with heart-eyes and wealth, while Lucy pretends she doesn’t even know him (for reasons I still don’t fully understand). Their dynamic felt off—he’s all in, she’s emotionally shut down—and that imbalance kept me from feeling invested.

There’s a big miscommunication moment that should’ve been a major turning point but is resolved way too quickly to feel earned. And I’ve got to be honest: if I never hear “Lucy baby” again, it’ll be too soon. It was a lot.

Overall, I’d give In Good Company 2.5 stars. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. The pacing dragged in places (some spicy scenes lasted chapters), and both characters started to grate on me—Cal with his “I always get what I want” energy and Lucy constantly pushing him away without letting him in.

That said, I’ve enjoyed other books by Kat Singleton, so I’m chalking this up as a one-off miss. If you’re here for angst, steam, and a billionaire romance in a beach town setting, you might still enjoy the ride.

Golden retriever MMC

I have so many feelings about this book! First, I want to say that I will definitely be reading the next one. I love a good billionaire-in-the-Hamptons story; I think it's the New Yorker in me. However, I didn't love the female main character—that's just a personal preference. I felt like the male main character was too good for her. Despite that, I really enjoyed the story, and as always, Kat's writing is perfection.

Golden retriever billionaire

My second book by this author and still not impressed. I would call this an instant love by the MMC, not a forbidden romance. He fell fast and he fell hard while not knowing anything about her! He didn’t know where she went to school, what her parents did, that she had dead brothers!! Yet, he had not fallen for anyone in his life and he was head over heels for this girl cause she told him no once? And to try to win her love he spent tens of thousands on her without knowing who she is. Just how she looks when she orgasms. Seems strange to me.
However, the narrators were 🔥

Thoughts
I have only ever read the exes brother trope from Kat Singleton and it is one of my favorite things that she writes. I love so many things about this. Cal is down bad for Lucy right out of the gate and oh man it was so good. He was so soft for her and he just wanted to do anything he could do for her, and he had the money to do it. Lucy had so much she was holding on to that Cal really just supported her through. My only complaint is that Cal’s backstory had a little more depth to it. We never really got any of his story and I think that would have added so much to the story. I loved the resolution between Cal and Oliver at the end and I’m glad it didn’t end up being drama for dramas sake. The conclusion of the whole story was *chef kiss* it was so soft and sweet.
