About this listen
Henry "Hank" Thompson's got a good thing going - a hut on a quiet Mexican beach, morning swims, a nice breakfast place a few miles down shore…until a backpacker with a Russian accent shows up and starts asking questions about his past. Questions Hank doesn't want to deal with. And then the backpacker mentions the money…and Hank's parents. So Hank makes a fateful move…because no one threatens Hank's family. Now Thompson is on the run - dodging federales and Russian mobsters, sneaking past the US Border Patrol, negotiating with nefarious businessmen, and trying desperately to avoid dying at the hands of two hell-bent surfer bums who fancy themselves his allies. The result is a full-throttle thriller, a cinematic adventure full of booze, bullets, loyalty, and love.

Story
Henry “call me Hank” Thompson used to play California baseball. Now he tends to a bar on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. When two Russians in tracksuits beat Hank to a pulp, he gets the clue: someone wants something from him. He just doesn’t know what it is, where it is, or how to make them understand he doesn’t have it. Within twenty-four hours, Hank is running over rooftops, playing hide-and-seek with the NYPD, riding the subway with a dead man at his side, and counting a whole lot of cash on a concrete floor. All because of some Russian hoods and a flat-out freakshow of goons.

Story
Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Story
It’s 1975, and the comic book industry is struggling, but Carmen Valdez doesn’t care. She’s an assistant at Triumph Comics, which doesn’t have the creative zeal of Marvel nor the buttoned-up efficiency of DC, but it doesn’t matter. Carmen is tantalizingly close to fulfilling her dream of writing a superhero book. That dream is nearly a reality when one of the Triumph writers enlists her help to create a new character, which they call “The Lethal Lynx”, Triumph's first female hero.

Who is the little known author?
I listen to at least 3 audiobooks a month. Member of audible.com. Behavioral Psychology UC Santa Barbara. 22 years cut my teeth on the California State Hospital system, the Veterans Administration. Ex USAF, Wounded Warrior. Retired. Point is, I’m a very critical critic. Logic based. Charlie Huston makes an enthralling story with no logical mistakes. I’m a huge John Grisham, Michael Colleens, David Baldacci, Mark Dawson & Mark Greanly, (who co-authored with the famous Tom Clancy), prior to Clancy’’s death. Google the guys if you love fantastic journeys into fiction. Maybe I’ve shared too many of Henry’s experiences. I was an ex- patriot, AirAmerica overseas in the Air Force. A wet boy as they called me. Please give this a read or listen. Guarantee you’ll throughly enjoy the ride.

Heaps of profanity and violence.
Quirky story I quit for several days 2/3 through. I guess I needed a break. Curiosity won out and I finished. Most of the characters are not likeable, but ending is perfect.
