Publisher's summary

WE DIDN’T DIE.

Trapped in a superstore by a series of escalating disasters, including a monster hailstorm and terrifying chemical weapons spill, brothers Dean and Alex learned how to survive while working together with twelve other kids to build a refuge from the chaos. But then strangers appeared, destroying their fragile peace, and bringing both fresh disaster and a glimmer of hope.

STAY SAFE

Knowing that the chemical weapons saturating the air outside will turn him into a bloodthirsty rage monster, Dean decides to stay in the safety of the store with his longtime crush Astrid and some of the younger kids. But their sanctuary has already been breached once....

OR GET TO DENVER.

Meanwhile, Alex, determined to find their parents, heads out into the darkness and devastation with their leader, Niko, and the rest of the kids in a recently repaired school bus. If they can get to Denver International Airport, they might be evacuated to safety. But the outside world is even worse than they expected....

Engaging, exciting, and very realistic

Would you listen to Sky on Fire again? Why?

Yes I would listen to Sky on Fire again! The performance was excellent and the story kept me continually interested. For a short period of time I had to take a break from the book but I could not stop thinking about the story and how excited I was to continue listening.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the very end because I was on the edge of my seat and my heart was racing even though I knew it was just a story but the performance and storyline were so great that I deeply cared about the end.

Which character – as performed by Todd Haberkorn – was your favorite?

I think the children such as Baptiste and Max were my favorite characters, I really felt like the children were real which made the story feel more realistic and memorable.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, the scene when Dean, Astrid, and the kids are trying to escape before the greenway is destroyed by a bomb moved me because I felt like I was truly there and was scared to find out what would happen.

Any additional comments?

Driving while listening to the book made the story seem even more real because i could imagine the roads in the story and cars on the side of the road in the post-apocalyptic world. Also the best way to read the book is to imagine yourself as each character and really imagine the fear and excitement they feel.

FANTASTIC 2nd book...

Would you consider the audio edition of Sky on Fire to be better than the print version?

This being the second book in the series is just as exciting as the first book, which had me on my toes the entire time. The narrator is wonderful, really pulling you into the story. A really adventurous read.

Decent book, not perfect.

SPOILERS!!!

Possible hot take but I think this book and the overall series would've been a whole lot more interesting if Dean and the group that stayed behind was left out of this book completely. It would've been super interesting if it all read like it was journals that they found throughout the stories. I would've loved a possible "spin off" kinda book at the end of the series that talked about the troubles Dean and the gang went through while Alex and the others were away.

I read this book like 10 years ago and coming back to it I really don't remember all that much from Dean and them other than the gang members that break in. But I remember every little detail about Alex's journey.

Overall not a bad book or anything, a fun little series. Nothing that really sticks out a lot though. I think Dean could've been a little less down bad 💀.

Amazing stories! Extremely realistic.

This author is excellent at telling stories in a way that you can see in vivid detail.
I’d love to see this made for the big screen. Just would hate for Hollywood to screw it up so bad.
Till then, I will listen again.
Thank you.

Great Narration!

What did you love best about Sky on Fire?

Todd Haberkom is probably the best narrator I've ever listened to...and, I listen to a lot of Audio books....He made me believe in every character!

What did you like best about this story?

The author just brought the characters alive....I felt myself getting attached to them...and, if something happened to one, it almost seemed real....

What does Todd Haberkorn bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great narration....each character had his/her own unique voice....his expressions were so real world....really enjoyed him!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes....I almost did !

Any additional comments?

can't wait for book #3!

Characters "kids" I care about

The characters in this story are "kids" I care about long after story over. Narration is really good: The narrator disappears into the story and characters and the "reader" is able to be lost in the adventure, danger, romance.
