About this listen

Murder happens in Houston, but when the most recent murders take on disturbing similarities, local law enforcement officers fear a serial killer is roaming their streets.

Former sheriff’s department sergeant Jade Monroe has just graduated from the FBI’s serial crimes unit in homicide and is called to Houston with her partner, J.T. Harper, to take on her first assignment—apprehending the person responsible for these gruesome crimes.

With victims piling up and the clock ticking, Jade and J.T. need to intensify their search because there’s no sign the killer is slowing down. After a late-night epiphany while she’s alone, Jade suddenly comes face to face with the killer, and now Jade is missing. The clock continues to tick—but this time it’s for her.

Excellent, Gritty, and Brutal

4.25 out of 5 stars

Sometimes I start a book and think I know what I’m getting into. Sometimes I’m close, and others, I’m way off. With Snapped, I was somewhere in the middle. Sutter could string me along for a while, but as the book climaxed, I had a good guess about where it was going and why. But I still didn’t see a lot of what happened to come.

Snapped was one of those books that, as the pacing and speed kept picking up, it was harder and harder to put down. I feel like Sutter was trying to strike that balance between introducing Jade in the fastest way possible and leaving some things unanswered. A great example is a phone call late in the book to her former partner, revealing another revelation about Jade. It made the intrigue around here almost match that of the serial killer they were hunting.

I won’t go into too much detail, but the first killer in these books was fascinating. I feel almost to the point of being “too much,” but then again. I didn’t have what she did happen to me so I wouldn’t know. A few times when she was going through the motions of each killing, I thought, “don’t any of these people have cameras? Wouldn’t some random corner catch a glimpse of her? That took me out of the story a bit (mainly because it sounded like some of these homes were really nice). But, if you can put that aside — the story was great, the serial killer aspect/character was fascinating, and Jade is someone that I feel I won’t have figured out even after a few stories. These are all things that I like in a story like this.

Overall, Snapped grabbed and held my attention throughout. It was a gritty and sometimes brutal thriller. I want to know more about Jade, and I hope that Sutter and Kelly work together in the future. Meghan Kelly was able to bring both the killer and Jade to life. I thought her portrayal of Jade was perfect – basically becoming Jade. But I also think she nailed the “certainty” of the killer too—a challenging feat to accomplish.

Kept me on the edge!

Wow, what an excellent start for this series. This is the first time for me with this author, and I am very impressed. I am usually able to figure out the who/why of a mystery, but this one caught me off guard. I really like Agent Jade Monroe and her peers. The way they are learning with each other and yet, still go back and talk with her past peers helps to understand who she is and why. Although the antagonist has so many things against her to make it 'understandable' for her actions, The author doesn't give her an out with her excuses. Her ending was perfect. The author does a fantastic job of describing the scenes to a certain point of gruesome, but not to the point of extreme. I had no problem envisioning the murder scenes.
I listened to the audiobook version of this and, although it is not the first time for me to listen to the narrator, I was, once again, so impressed with Meghan's talent. I love her way of telling a story, giving just the right emphasis where it needs to be to make a point, and an expression and/or a description. She makes me feel all of the feelings and actually see what the author wants me to see. Meghan enhances the story to the point that I tend to forget I am being 'read' to.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next one.

It was a good listen

Starts out slow, has more fillers than I like but I enjoyed it. It did pick up and was easy to follow. Was a bit predictable, but a good listen. There are a few thrills that make it exciting.

The narrator did a good job, normal voice pleasant, there was one place where there is a repeat but there are no background noise, no volume changes, was a very clear audio. Good characters, shows emotions, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling.

Fast paced crime thriller!

I LOVED this fast paced crime thriller! It really kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would happen next. The author does a great job stringing me along for the ride. This is a wonderful introduction to Jade and this series. She is inquisitive, smart and genius at filtering out things to help the case.

I did listen to this on audio. Meghan Kelly is the narrator. She does an amazing job! She has all different voices she uses and they each help create a picture of that character.

I look forward to more in this series!

Worst narration ever

Narrator is the worst ever!! Megan Kelly is awful. Character voices are monotonous. She over enunciates every word. I wouldn’t have finished but I have enjoyed the series of Jade Monroe by CMSutter. Needless to say I won’t purchase the next one because it is narrated by Megan Kelly.

A heart pounding thriller

Snapped: An Agent Jade Monroe FBI Thriller by CM Sutter is a action packed story about the hunt for a serial killer. I had an inkling early on about the killer’s motivation, but was surprised how it all fit together. Jade Monroe is a seasoned law enforcement officer who is now a newly graduated FBI Special Agent. She and her senior partner are sent to work with colleagues in Houston where multiple victims are being killed in similar ways. This is the first Jade Monroe book I’ve read and I found her to be reckless and her behavior somewhat unrealistic. For example, there is no way that a newbie Special Agent would be given so much autonomy or authority in her first days on the job, nor would her pronouncements and opinions been taken so happily by the senior members of the team. Not to spoil anything, but she shouldn’t take time to shower during a crucial point in the investigation and she would definitely be reprimanded - if not fired - for losing all her government issued equipment. But, if you can suspend believe and remember that its fiction, this is a good thriller.

The narration by Meghan Kelly was outstanding. She used her vocal talents to create unique voices, accents and inflections, etc to characters from different regions of the US. She brought the characters and story to life.

Great Start To The Series

I truly enjoyed this book. It was the first book I have read from C.M. Sutter. It caught my attention from page one until the end. I am hooked. Narrator Meghan Kelly was perfect. I can’t wait until the next book comes out. In the meantime I will check out their other works!!

Snapped, crackled and popped! This is one heck of a story!

Jade Monroe may be a seasoned investigator, but she is new to serial crimes and new to the the FBI Serial Crimes Unit. When her first case goes horribly wrong, she finds herself on the wrong side of a serial killer! Filled with engaging, well developed characters, featuring a fast paced, action filled plot, and brought to life by clear, convincing, emotionally authentic narration, “Snapped” had me glued to my headphones, desperate to know what was motivating the individual Jade was seeking! THIS is NOT your normal serial killer thriller! I had feelings of absolute horror, AND feelings of profound sympathy as I listened, and not for the reasons one would normally think with this type of story! I can’t name names or give details, that would be playing spoiler, but know that this story grabbed me, held me enthralled, and would not let me go until it was over and I had every … last … beautifully… written… fabulously… narrated … detail! No spoilers! After you listen, I have a feeling you will know EXACTLY what I mean! This is the type of story that reaches inside you and squeezes out feelings, emotions and opinions you might not know you had! This is a new to me author and I can’t wait for more in what promises to be a fantastic and fascinating series! Five stunning stars! I want more!

Obsession!

This is the chilling story of a woman who snapped after a life-altering tragedy. She meticulously planned her revenge, targeting everyone who wronged her. The FBI is called in because it appears that a serial killer is on the loose. The cat and mouse between the authorities and the killer, and the twist at the end is a definite surprise. I believe th
at for the first time, I could side with the killer!
As always, Meghan Kelly's narration is spot-on. I have come to expect excellence and I'm never disappointed.

Great entertaining thriller

The story is brought to a reader from two sides. The FBI agent is investigating a serial killer and serial killer who is planning and executing her murders.

It was fascinating to follow the storyline. This book is a page-turner, it was hard to put down until the end.

The narrator, Meghan Kelly, was great as always. She gave different voices and personalities to numerous characters in the story.
