Publisher's summary

Old-timers in 12-step programs say that if you want to stay sober, you only have to change one thing: your whole life. Sober Truths: The Making of an Honest Woman recounts how one woman did just that.

Jill Kelly's personal stories describe the journey as two decades of drinking and despair gave way to a richly rewarding sober life. Her demons did not go quietly when she put the bottle down. Loneliness, anxiety, distrust of others - they were all still there. This memoir tells how she has learned to be with those demons and not drink, to let go of the jealous dramas of the past and embrace a new life of peace. Along the way, Kelly reinvents herself, becoming a visual artist, starting a successful business, and developing deep friendships and a satisfying spiritual life. At the same time, she faces the challenges of emotional eating and her sober ambivalence about sexual relationships.

This audiobook offers hope to those who cannot imagine a life without alcohol by someone who has recreated hers.

I’m so sorry for the Author

All those situation in this book make me feel deeply sorry for the Authors life. How I wished for her wishes to come into fruition at some point or for her to turn to religion as a solution. Anger arises in me for the abysmal way each man treated her and I am truly sorry for that those who didn’t not regret their actions those men are not men remember that they were never it from the beginning. I’m so sorry and I pray for consolation in the authors remaining life.

AWESOME Book!

This was listed as free on Audible so I gave it a try not expecting much. Boy was I wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story. Although I’m not an alcoholic, I can relate to Jill’s story in so many aspects. It’s truly captivating.

Heartfelt and honest

As a woman who has struggled with alcoholism most of my adult life, and recently diagnosed with ADHD at age 50, I could truly connect with her story and the pain and loneliness that comes from never quite fitting in, never quite feeling like I'm enough. Her emotionally unavailable, alcoholic mother and absent father hit home for me as well and I knew exactly the trauma that had caused her and why it steered her into the arms of the men in her life. Her voice had a soothing, calming effect on me and helped me decompress during times of stress. It's always reaffirming for me to hear other women's stories and know that I'm not alone in my sturggles, that I can push through them and give to myself the patience, acceptance and love I did not receive as a child. Jill's story was exactly what I needed right now.

So good!!!!

I struggled for 7 months without alcohol and then started a journey of podcasts and books to help me along, at 9 months I found this book and it’s been the best read so far. So far we raw and honest. I love it!

So relatable

Jills story is familiar and relatable. Having the author read her novels and her story makes it more real for me. I hope to run into her some day in Portland. Thanks Jill.
