Now a number one best seller in inspirational romance!
The first time I met Ian Kemp in the sparkling blue waters of St. Thomas, I was six years old, and we shared a summer beneath the stars.
The second time I met Ian Kemp, he was a shell of the boy I once knew. Turbulent and infuriating, he refused my friendship at every turn. Like me, he was a casualty of life’s cruelty, but we were planets apart.
We’d both sought refuge on the island, hoping to find our anchor. Instead, we found each other and managed to reclaim our stars...until we both got swept away.

I loved so much about this story line. The epic quality of the relationship between the main characters who had known each other since childhood was endearing. The snappy dialogue throughout the story, as well as the snarky monologue going endlessly through Koti's head offered much-needed comic relief. The sizzle and heartfelt emotional tsunamis that emanated from both Koti and Ian were something akin to watching a natural disaster take place in slow motion: crazy, gut-wrenching, torturous, and fascinating. At times it hurts enough that you don't want to be in that moment, but you just can't turn away--it's just too consuming.
This. This is love.

I liked Koti well enough until she took it upon herself to foist a puppy on Ian. This was terribly irresponsible, especially when she saw Ian's erratic behavior. He could just as easily have neglected the dog. His annoyed reactions were supposed to be funny and amusing, but I was fuming as much as he was. Pet lovers always think that a pet will make everyone happy, but someone who doesn't want one has the right not to have one. Her claim that he needed the puppy didn't fly with me. If someone did that to me, she'd be on my shit list forever. I never could completely warm up to Koti after that.
Good thing that Ian was a strong enough character to keep me invested in the story. A great love interest makes all the difference for me. His daughter was a terrific character too, and their relationship was wonderful. So many scenes were beautifully written, both emotionally and descriptively. I felt like I did steal away to an island for awhile. There were some real life problems too, so it wasn't just a pie in the sky fantasy. I wasn't clear on their career plans in the end though.
I'm planning to read more from this author.
