About this listen

A USA Today Best-Selling Novel

My name is Jack Sutton, CEO of Sutton Fashion Magazine, and I had the world at my fingertips. A successful career, loads of money, and beautiful women who were always at my beck and call. My problem? I lived under the shadow of my mother, who started the company over 30 years ago. Not to mention her being married and divorced six times, which left a bad taste in my mouth as far as relationships were concerned. Women to me were nothing but mere toys. They were meant to be played with for my own personal pleasure, and when I was done playing, they'd get tossed to the side.

Then in walked Lorelei Flynn. She was beautiful…and so wrong for me. The problem? She was my personal assistant, and she was closed off, to say the least. Despite her being the beautiful woman she was, I had an overwhelming need to find out what was underneath all that beauty. It was something I couldn't explain. It was just something about Lorelei.

My name is Lorelei Flynn, and I was Jack Sutton's 15th personal assistant in a little over a year. My boyfriend was killed seven years ago in a car accident. Before he died he gave me a gift: my daughter, Hope. My life did nothing but revolve around her. I didn't date, and I hadn't had sex in seven years. Then Jack Sutton came into my life, and he was as sexy as sin, but he was nothing but a womanizer - and my boss.

The line was there the day I took the job, and it was one that couldn't be crossed. Or shouldn't be crossed. But it was crossed, and now the only world I'd known was suddenly changing, and it scared the hell out of me.

Romantically sweet

This is a book that will have you laughing and crying. It's one book that is like a Cinderella story.

Enjoyable story.

Single parents books are one of my favorites. This book is awesome, I love watching man who’s a little damage or close off find that one woman that can make him open up and find true joy and happiness. There’s something about a child’ pure innocence and honesty can also make adults see the world in a different light. Light, fun story, this book doesn’t disappoint.

I enjoyed this one

I enjoyed this book. The story was good it was well written. The narrators were good. The only thing that would have made it better, was if they would have had a really dual narration.
These two narrators would have been good reading the book male reading all male parts and female reading female. Maybe someday all books will be read in the proper way. Worth a credit enjoy.

Very good

I liked the storyline a lot. The writing was good, but very few spicy moments. Jack seemed to take forever to develop as a character! The narrators did a really great job too.

Good Read, rushed ending!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes I would recommend this book to my friends. We are familiar with the work of Sandi Lynn and that is why I purchased the book despite some of the other reviews written. Most people rated the book 5 stars, I didn't feel it was worth 5 but maybe 3.5 -4.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

When Jack took care of Hope. I was happy but a little reluctant. I know Jack doesn't care for children and when his mother showed up she brought out the more intense side of Jack and after the Mom left, I was afraid he would lose his temper with her and make her cry. Thankfully that did not happen. He took care of Hope and remained in control of his emotions and kept his eye on the objective, he had to take care of this child for Loralei because there was no one else.

Which character – as performed by David Benjamin Bliss and Julie Francis – was your favorite?

I love David Benjamin Bliss he is talented. I would listen to anything else he might perform. I thought his performance or Sandi's characters were similar to Connor Black and Denny from the Forever Black series. I found myself forgetting which book I was reading at times. I am not familiar with Julie Frances work. I thought she did a great job with Hope. I thought she played Lorelei well too.

Do you think Something About Lorelei  needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Well, if Sandi were to do a follow up book, I would suggest a re-write for the book to revisit the existing story and make it more well rounded and more detailed. There were parts in the dialogue where I thought I would like to see Lorelei stand up for herself a little stronger and tell Jack off. She was strong, but the scene in my mind where she tells Jack about her boyfriend dying felt raw and misplaced. She was trying to explain why she didn't tell Jack she had a daughter and defend herself, but to me all she did was open herself up and make herself more vulnerable. I don't think Jack deserved to learn more about her past until he earned her trust. I get she didn't have Jacks trust, she was defending herself against a lie of omission, but what she should have said was, the truth. I didn't tell you about my daughter because you hate kids Jack. You told me so yourself! I need this job and I didn't want to be fired. I think the story of her boyfriends death might have been placed better during the time in the book where both characters defenses were down.
Like a scene written during one of his short visits in the hospital. He could have acknowledged how good of a mother she was, how exhausted he was after only 1 or 2 days of taking care of Hope. The story could have flowed into a nice get to know more of each other moment. I also thought it was odd Garrett told Lorelei she could sue Jack if she wanted. Who in H/R would suggest such a thing? I thought Lorelei was a strong character because she said, " I would never do that". So many people in today's society would pursuit legal ramifications! Kudos to Lorelei for being grown up enough to take the high road and make her intentions known that she will find another job and make it a smooth transition for Jack and his new assistant. Again another example of her strong character.

Any additional comments?

I felt the book was credit worthy, I thought it was just a little short. I thought we could have had some discovery chapters. The book jumped from their honeymoon to 10 years later. I would have like to see some special moments like the first time Jack finds out he will be a natural father, the pregnancy experience, fatherhood etc. more details. If there is more to their story and the premise of the story sounded good I might read another installment in this couples lives but because the story is already out and we know how it ends because of the rushed ending, the journey is already over.

Book was Something interesting, Narration Something Flawed

Enjoyed the story very much. The only thing I would change is the narration. The male voice spoke for Jack's character as well as the female characters in the Jacks's chapters. Same thing for Lorelei's chapters. In my opinion, use the male voice for male characters and female for the female characters.
