About this listen

Sometimes only an accidental matchmaker can make lighting strike the people who need it most. Zoe moves to Maui to live her dream of being an independent journalist walking the beaches of paradise every day - but she never expected to be doing it with just her dog Sylvester. Divorced and heartbroken, and she ends up in therapy. Adam’s born and bred on Maui, a true "local" who surfs to stay in shape and deal with his many sources of stress: care of his mother, a busy contracting business, and a custody fight for his beloved stepkids. A workplace confrontation sends him to anger management counseling. Adam and Zoe happen to share a therapist who gives them the same advice: Try Internet dating. And though their Crazy Blind Date match-up ignites sparks neither have felt since high school, finding love is complicated by car wrecks, heart attacks, dot.com millionaires, misunderstandings and fresh grief. Can Adam and Zoe find a way to live a deeper dream on Maui?

My wife liked this one...so this is her review

Would you listen to Somewhere on Maui again? Why?

Maybe, if i didn't have a new book to listen to...I found it easy listening and great for commuting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Somewhere on Maui?

The scenes with Adam and his mother were nice and well performed.

Which character – as performed by Sara Malia Hatfield – was your favorite?

The brazilian guy was funny, but I really liked the lead Adam...all around good guy, I'd most definitely say yes to a date with him, after my husband of course, ha!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

not extreme, more soft smiles or a bit teary...again an easy listen, in many ways a very chill book which i found to be nice.

Any additional comments?

Definitely more of a chick flick type listen, but enjoyable and well performed. Relieved to hear a local narrator performing this, thank you Audible!

Delightfully engaging

Loved the story line and character development. Narrator effective soothing. Depicts how miscommunication can be damaging and how important it is not to assume.

Romance; nothing but romance

Reading the critiques I'd hoped there would be a little more to this book than the average romance; a relationship of a man and a woman; searching for and finding the partner that is their destiny; the one. That portion of this audiobook was pretty good as far as that went. There were very few portions of the narrative in which I didn't like both Adam and Zoey. Though I have to say that they both seemed to have been transported fifty years ahead in time. Perhaps it's just me and the people that I know but these two have been less sexually active than everyone I know personally. I appreciated the setting and I learned several things about Hawaii that I hadn't known. The Rodriguez family is great, and though they are presented as paragons of goodness they feel realistic.
I felt as though there were some huge holes in the story and just as with many books of this type the plot was lacking. The saving grace of this book as well as this genre is that the author(s) created a lot of very likable characters; as well as a few intentionally unlikable ones.
This is an enjoyable listen if you're doing something else at the time and have the luxury of splitting your concentration or if it's part of a compromise with a feminine companion it's pretty good listen.

I got lost in this story

Would you listen to Somewhere on Maui again? Why?

It's a really good story line and it's believable. I like romance novels, but not if they are far-fetched with unrealistic characters. I felt that the characters were people I would know in my own life.

What did you like best about this story?

The heart-wrenching end. It wasn't what I was expecting, and I literally had tears in my eyes.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This was my first audiobook and I wasn't sure what to expect since I love holding a book and reading it. However, the narrator completely swept me away and helped create a vision in my mind of what the characters looked like - she brought them to life! I usually like to take my time with a book, anticipating what the next scene will be, but with this book I was done in a couple of days.

Any additional comments?

I love Toby's books and now I'm in love with the audiobooks, too!

1st Romance Audiobook

I just finished Somewhere on Maui by Toby Neal and I loved it!! Not only is it my first book by Toby Meal, but it is also my first time listening to a book in this genre. I am so happy with decision to start with this one!! I can't wait to read more of her books!

The storyline was really engaging and easy to keep up with. Toby Neal's style of writing was smooth throughout the entire book, and I felt connected to the characters almost immediately. The main characters were likeable and easy to relate to!

The narration of the book was fantastic! Her voice was controlled and calm...very pleasant to hear. She used a variety of voices and accents (which were great!) for each character, so I was never left wondering who was speaking.

I recommend this book 100% to people who enjoy present day love stories. ❤❤❤

Wonderful, Engaging Story!

I am a huge Toby Neal fan, partly because I spent several summers in Hawaii and I love to hear the accents and language of the people who grew up there. The story is absorbing, and the narrator's work is just stellar. The characters shine through, and she shifts from mainland to island to pidgin accents with almost disconcerting ease. It's one of the few audio books I think I could listen to repeatedly, just for the music of the language.

Good, kind. Restoring

This was a kind, gentle story. No lying, cheating or misconcieving each other unnecessarily. No back stabbing and evil hostility. Actually makes me wish I believed love is possible for this old bird! Now, I want to read more Toby Neal romances!
