Publisher's summary

Easy to love, easy to leave.

With her ex-fiance's words, "I'm in love with someone else," still ringing in her ears, Clare Franklin flies off on her would-be honeymoon alone. Resigned to the fact that not everyone gets a happily ever after, she's sworn off men. Until she gets tangled up, quite literally, with one very sexy veterinarian.

The only thing Dr. Deacon Montgomery is looking to share is his surgical expertise, but his instant attraction to Clare makes him wonder if he could be more than just a doctor and daddy to his twin two-year-old daughters.

Sun-filled days and hot, steamy nights only deepens the connection, causing them each to hope for something more. Until one phone call from home changes everything. But a love like theirs is hard to find, and definitely too hard to forget.

Swept away by love, at last!

I loved LOVE AT LAST by Claudia Connor! The narrator, Johanna Parker did an amazing job of bringing to life the character’s voices with emotion, joy and heart. Events that happened in the story felt realistic and flowed well and kept me engaged with every passing chapter. Love scenes were that, filled with passion and tenderness, which had me sighing for Deacon and Clare. Their families are just the kind people I enjoy reading in stories, with strong bonds and quirky adorable kids. I can’t recommend Claudia Connor enough. She’s on my top favorites list.

Good story!

I enjoy hearing about a second chance love. Yes, it was a little out over drawn. But, still good writing and well worth the Credit.

Pretty good story

I liked this book but I felt that the premise wasn’t realistic and the “ problem” in Deacon’s past was dealt with too quickly and easily.
Johanna Parker was okay as the narrator- she performed all of the minor characters much better than the breathy too pathetic sounding Clare.
Overall this was an okay listen .

Finally together!

After being left at the alter, Clare decides to go on her "honeymoon" to give herself some time. She decides with some encouragement from her friend Jessica to put herself out there and enjoy the time she has away. Clare literally bumps into Deacon and the instant connection both physically and emotionally is strong. Each of them feels it, but when Deacon leaves suddenly with no explanation, Clare fears the worst, left again. But this time it's different for both of them. This is my first Claudia Connor book, and I love the story. Deacon is swoonworthy, both on and off the island. His love of his girls is a definite draw for me, he will do anything for them. Clare is a strong woman, the decisions she makes are tough and life changing. Their bond is strong, but will it be enough to pull them together? Are there secrets revealed that the two can work through? It's almost like a slow burn for them to get together, easy to feel the pain and anguish as well as the love as it grows. I will definitely look for more of her work.

Johanna Parker narrates this story with a heat and emotion filled performance. She has an array of voices, and does wonderful children portrayals. She gives an enjoyable listen.

Entertaining but predictable

The book is a little drawn out and pretty predictable - but nevertheless, it's an entertaining, fun story with good characters. A good beach read!

Johanna Parker is an "ok" reader - but she really doesn't add anything to the narration and I found her mail voices to be scratchy and annoying. Wish she would just tell the story - not try to change her voice so much. I would probably read the next book I see with her name - rather than listen.

Solid romance with believable conflict

I enjoyed listening to this book. The combo of this writer + her penchant for kids in her books + Johanna Parker narrating is a winning one.

I loved the heck out of the first third of this book. There is a great meet cute between the heroine and the hero, They spend time with each other and begin what is supposed to be an easy enough affair for the remaining days they are there, but they both catch feelings. However they get separated abruptly.

The second third of the book was the two of the being separated. The author did a great job, imo, in creating a very credible circumstance that stops them from reconnecting even though they both really want to. However, even though I thought she created a clever and credible series of obstacles I thought this middle part dragged on a bit for my taste.

The last third has the two of them reconnecting with two huge humdinger of a revelation on both their sides. The reader knows everything that has been going on so when the characters finally find out, we get a load of great soapy goodness,

All in all, though, I thought this was a really good contemporary romance that didn't feel like all the super smexy high octane contemporary romances that I can't tell apart from each other these days. It wasn't super sweet and it wasn't super angsty. It was just a good story about a couple in their early late 20s/early 30s that felt like their age and had age appropriate issues and attitudes with an interestingly crafted romantic conflict. And excellent narration.

Struggled through this one.

I did enjoy the book by the time I finished it. But I have to admit that I struggled with a few items. First, the narration was great when the characters were speaking. But the general narration seemed drawn out and monotone. The other part that had me struggling was Clare's unwillingness to reach out to Deacon on just about everything! It almost turned me off, but I wanted to stick it out. I am glad I did because the ending (although a little anti-climatic) still warmed my heart.

Beautiful, Slow Burn Romance!

I love single dad romance and this one did not disappoint. Love At Last is a sweet, emotional, and steamy story that will capture your heart. Clare is through with men. That is until charming, sexy veterinarian, Deacon, makes it his mission to redeem all of mankind. They have the sweetest meet cute that evolves into a hot and steamy fling on a romantic tropical island. Their connection is instant and their chemistry is explosive. When a Deacon leaves suddenly to rush home to his family, Clare is confused and heartbroken. Neither knows how to contact the other, and then misunderstandings make it seem impossible to ever reconnect. Deacon and Clare's story is a roller-coaster journey that causes them to fight for what they want most, love and family. Clare is so strong, loving and a bit clumsy. Deacon is the perfect tender, protective, loving single dad. They made a great team and I loved them together.
Johanna Parker shined in her portrayal of all the different characters in this story. From the very young to the more mature, their were all believable and dynamic, helping to bring this story to life.
This is a beautiful, slow burn romance that will make you laugh, cry and swoon.
