Publisher's summary

Who was Rumi, and how does he continue to speak to us today? On Song of the Sun, Andrew Harvey, the Oxford-trained authority on Rumi and author of several modern spiritual classics, takes us inside the extraordinary life and teachings of this prophet and poet. Harvey sifts through the many legends and tales associated with Rumi's life to reveal a rich and inspiring portrait of what a human being in love with and empowered by God can become. He mines the thousands of odes and quatrains composed by Rumi, and shares the most sumptuous and ecstatic works, all with clear relevance to our spiritual lives today. At a time when we are hungry for a divine vision of our world as it can be - and should be - Song of the Sun is an invitation to Rumi's most sacred and glorious feast.

interesting subject, book disappointing

i believe, reading this book would probably be a better experience that listening to it. what's really annoying is the undescribable "pathos" in the voice of the speaker; for me it was unbearable to hear this; I had to put away after one hour.

OUTSTANDING!

What did you love best about Song of the Sun?

What a beautiful presentation of Rumi & his songs. I expected to simply hear poetry & was amazed at the depth with which Harvey took us into its relevancy & meaning that I would never have appreciated without his insights. He laid out the whole mystical path clearly & with great passion that's completely contagious. This reading by Harvey is a timeless treasure.

Beautiful Poetry, Beautiful Reading

I'm totally happy with having purchased this audio book.

Rumi is/was new to me. Fascinating biography, fantastic poetry and cleary the author, who doubles as the presenter is both knowledgable and in love with his subject.

Other reviewers seem to have had problems withe delivery/speech pattern of the author. I can only put it down to his English accent, though for me his joy for the subject radiates on the recording and brings the emotionality of the subject to the fore.

A winner!

Rumi's work is pure music!

Andrew has won my heart with this book. His rendition of Rumi's life and how to lift the veil of our humanness to awakening the Divine heart is remarkable. Loved his prayers and meditations. Exceptional! Andrew Harvey is a pure angel.

Deep Dive in RUMI

I’m a huge fan of this author's work on translations of the most prolific and indisputable Master of divine love poetry

This recording is one of the best audio recordings that I have come across on Audible. If you like RUMI’s poetry, especially on the topic of divine love you don’t want to miss this one.

Excellent

This audio book is only for those who understand and want to reach out to the mystical side of life. Harvey is an excellent spokesperson for the Mystic poet Rumi and his slow manner of speech is perfect for a greater understanding into the depth of Rumi's beautiful poetry. I give this reading a definite 5 stars - this is one of the few audiobooks that I have that I will listen to over and over.

Carl From Connecticut, US

I was disappointed with this book. I really haven't had the chance to read much of Rumi and was expecting more readings of Rumi's writings. This book is more of the authors opinion of who Rumi was and how he came to be. I find that for a five hour long book I should have heard a vast array of Rumi's Poems.

Disappointed

The audio sample was better than the volume. Poetry by an east Indian mystic...I expected more commentary, and less biography and poetry
