About this listen

Dave Ballard is a tool. A high-level music exec with only one thing on his mind: getting ahead by leveraging the talents of others. When a coworker talks him into going to the middle of nowhere to scout a troubled singer, Dave thinks it will be an exercise in futility. But once he sees the mysterious silver-tongued Luca Wayne on stage, he changes his tune.

With his soulful voice, bad boy vibe, and sad green eyes that can pull you under, Luca is the kind of talent that comes along once in a lifetime. Even before the first song is over, Dave knows he has to sign him. Trouble is, Luca doesn't want to be discovered.

Luca Wayne is perfectly content playing to a crowd of 20 in his father's dive bar on Tybee Island. Never mind that he looks like a homeless street performer and eats just enough to survive. Luca doesn't want more. He doesn't want to be a star. Hell, he barely wants to live. And after what happened to him, who can blame him?

The heartbreaking discovery Dave makes about Luca's past awakens something inside him, softening his heart and filling him with a need to wrap Luca in his strong arms and make everything okay. But can Dave reconcile the business shark in him with these new tender feelings? And even if he can, Luca's problems may be more than even he can handle.

When Dave finds himself lost in the eye of the hurricane, he'll find out once and for all if he has the strength to save Luca from his Soul Storm.

Too bad

It’s too bad this was narrated by someone who sounded like a senior citizen. The story was good but I couldn’t get past the horrible narration. If J.K. Harding had narrated this one like most of Maris’s other books, I would have given it 5 stars. My recommendation would be to read instead of listen to this one.

Great story with casting issues

I really loved the story but one of the narrators (Bruce Cullen) sounded too old for the character of the 30 something music exec. He did a great job but when an actor sounds the wrong age for the part it throws me out of the story.
That said, the other actor (Peter Verbina) did an amazing job too. I had no problem picturing he as a twenty something tortured artist. I would like to hear more of his work.

Lovely

Everything about this book was great. Well written and emotional. Peter Verbena and Bruce Cullen did a great job narrating Soul Storm. This book really spoke to me.

Category Five Stars

I stumbled on this book by accident and took a chance. An online reading buddy had commented about it. I am so glad I listened. This is the story of a broken heart mended, a powerful man love struck and a hurricane's aftermath. It is about two men who stumble into love and find their souls. It is a too short story that made me longed for more. The writing is excellent with good banter. I listened to the audiobook and loved the narration, both narrators were well suited to their characters. They are Peter Verbena and Bruce Cullen. I am anxious to hear more from this author and these incredible voice actors. I'm sure I'll have to read this one again.

Much better than expected

I love nothing more than a story about broken characters. Luka is a talented singer who is lost without his brother. His talent is obvious and A/R Director Dave is all about signing him until he isn’t. Luka is too broken. Too much of a risk. Luka sets out to prove him wrong and over time, we see that Dave isn’t nearly as put together as he seems.

I loved the journey. It felt right. A secondary character (Miles) was a little bit annoying and I’m wondering if there’s a book for him in the future.

This was a short audible book however it felt like just the right length.

I don’t think that I’ve ever listened to either narrator before and it took me awhile to adjust to the duel narrative approach.

Definitely worth the purchase.

Good story...BOTH Narrators are great!

This was a really nice listen. It kept my interest beginning to end. I thought both the narrators did a good job! In other reviews I read negative remarks.. I do not agree. Listen outside of the box people..the world is full of different voices.. Have an open mind.

Interesting Story

Something a little different from Maris Black so I liked it for that... but who the heck were these guys? What is going on and why? The way these two were set up from the beginning none of it really rang true. I'm kinda confused.

Great story, terrible narrators.

I love the story line, but the narrators were terrible, especially Dave. I would have preferred to read it & almost gave up listening to it but I stuck it out because of the characters and the story itself.

So slow, in spite of being short...

1.5

Everybody complained about the fast pace of the story. Me? I felt it was so slow I got bored. It was truly promising, but it didnt deliver. I have the Kage trilogy on hold, so I hope those are better.

On the narrators: Bruce Cullen sounded like a mix of Pennywise and someone's grandpa.
Peter Verbena was better, sexier, which made me sad he had less of the story to narrate.
