About this listen

A man hiding from his past and a woman running from hers.

Two people from different worlds who know one another only from what they have shared in Facebook messages. They've never heard the other's voice, or seen a photo.

Analise Becke writes romance with western heroes, men she has dreamed up by combining the looks of her favorite western actor with the qualities she discovers in her online chats with the Texas rancher, Riley Morgan. She's cooked up more than a few fantasies about Riley over the last year, but knows them for what they are - fantasies of a lonely woman whose marriage is falling apart.

Riley looks forward to the online chats more than he is willing to admit but has never considered asking what she looks like. She's just an online friend. Yeah, they have a connection, but certainly not enough to even consider that a face-to-face meeting will spark anything other than a solidification of their friendship.

Riley Morgan and Analise Becke are in for a big surprise - actually a series of surprises. Their lives are about to be turned upside down as passion and danger come to Cotton Creek, Texas.

And they say nothing ever happens in Cotton Creek.

Intriguing!

I really enjoyed this intriguing, romantic story. The characters are well developed and realistic, not perfect but relatable and genuine. There was quite a bit to this story as it involved more than one storyline, with Analise’s husband’s involvement with the mob and then Riley’s past and ranch life. There is also the touch of the paranormal. All of this makes for an exciting and enjoyable listen. J.Scott Bennett does an exceptional job with the narration. His voice is perfect for the story and all his different voices and emotions bring the story to life and make for an enjoyable listening experience. I picked up this audiobook for free and am voluntarily providing an unbiased review.

Good story, so-so narration

I was looking for a western romance and saw this was the first book in a series, so I picked it up from Audible Escape. What I got was a romantic suspense with slightly older characters and ultimately was a good book.

However, I was not a fan of J. Scott Bennett's narration. Seems most of the other reviewers really enjoyed his performance. But his southern accent grated on my nerves and I wasn't a fan of the voices he used to distinguish between the various characters. His pacing was fine and there was enough emotion in the performance. Honestly, in the future I wouldn't search out books that he's narrated, but I also won't let it stop me from listening to a story I really want to hear.

Not so great, a bit cheesy

This book was a disappointment. It’s pretty cheesy and I kept rolling my eyes. There are so many details that are ridiculous that I had to pretend to be air headed to get through it. Also? Wt*? Why bother to throw some paranormal elements at the end when the rest of the book has none; doesn’t fit the rest of the story.
All I can say is that it didn’t cost me a credit and I was able to complete it.

Slow but steady...

Any additional comments?

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast. The narrator did an ok job of distinguishing between characters so it was easy to follow. The story wasn't the most exciting, and it was hard getting through portions of the book because I was bored, but I would say this book is still worth a credit.

Totally enthralling western romance

I really liked this book. Though I started the series out of order by beginning with book #3, I'm glad I got to come back and read this one. One of my complaints in book #3 was that I didn't really understand the "angel" aspect, and this book explains is more. Though in all honestly, the angel aspect isn't even really needed in the series because the main story line is so enthralling. I had such a hard time putting this book down. The characters are interesting, both their current personalities, as well as their back stories. I like how the characters are still present in other novels in the series, so that you really become immersed in the town of Cotton Creek, almost like you're there. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book narrated by J. Scott Bennett. He is just so perfect for this series, and I enjoyed every minute of his narration. He gives a unique voice to each character, and performs both male and female voices really well. I highly recommend this series for fans of western romance.

Wonderful

I love Ciana stories, the cowboy and the lady, a town that brings hope and breeds hot cowboys. Just can't get enough. I also had the audio book and it's wonderful to hear the characters come to life.

Southern Comfort

What made the experience of listening to Southern Comfort the most enjoyable?

I loved the story, the characters, the fun and the romance as the two come together. It was great to see an older couple find the happily ever after, from their past unsettled lives. A very sweet love story.
