I love reading Griffin's books because he has strong characters throughout all of his series.

Great Characters

This series was suggested to me by a cop friend. They are pretty entertaining and the characters are likable. You really don't even have to be a huge fan of cop dramas to enjoy them but it helps. They are based in the 70s so they can be dated at times but that's kind of the charm of them as well.

Entertaining

I never tire of going back to this series for a reread! The characters are great and I love the setting in the early books, 1970's Philadelphia. Growing up in the 70's, I like the setting because it reminds me how things were, especially never being able to get in touch with someone. Life before cell phones. There is a grittiness in the books that comes with the time and Griffin captures the feeling of big city 1970's turmoil. Michael Russotto is also one of my favorite narrators. Some of the characters have similar dialects by Russotto, but his voice is great for the setting and characters.

If you like Griffin's other books, you love this series.

Multiple Reads!!

Detail is great. The mindset is right for the job, and the characters juggle life as well. I'm getting the rest of them.

Second in this police series, Special Operations depicted a newly created department struggling to get organized while trying to identify and capture a serial rapist. The crude and sexist language reflected the way most people spoke in that decade.

The author did an excellent job of developing the numerous characters introduced in book one and adding a few more. Unfortunately, the subject of sexual assault was depressingly accurate and sad, somewhat reducing the entertainment factor.

On the bright side, several strong, independent females were added to balance the mostly male cast of characters. And despite the overwhelmingly racist atmosphere of that time, several of the dedicated police officers were minorities.

Conversations were dated. What was acceptable then is not now. Technology of yesterday demonstrated improvement in productivity.

Surprised twist to story lines.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Anyone who likes repetition, overstatement and wordiness.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Michael Russotto?

Just about anyone.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed as all get out.

Any additional comments?

Maybe the the author is better to read than to listen to.

Awful!

Getting lazy in research just kills a novel like this. Author needs to write 1973 on his palm...

Good story, but chock o block with anachronisms
