About this listen

To save an innocent man’s life, amateur sleuth and cook Kat Holloway must expose a financial scam that could ruin the most powerful aristocrats in Victorian-era London.

Kat is distressed to learn that Samuel Millburn, husband of the woman who looks after her daughter, has been accused of embezzling funds from the bank where he works as a clerk. The accusation is absurd, and Samuel’s wife fears that her husband will not only lose his post but be imprisoned. Kat vows to uncover the truth.

When she discovers the bank is involved in shockingly murky business dealings, Kat realizes she’s treading in dangerous waters. She turns to her confidante and handsome suitor, Daniel McAdam, for help. To exonerate Samuel, Kat and Daniel may have to expose the unseemly financial dealings of prominent aristocrats and government officials, and even those working to bring down the royal family. Kat will risk everything to protect the man who has sacrificed so much for her daughter, even if it means endangering herself and the friends she has come to love.

Love this book & series

If you have an imagination the writing & narration lets you see the characters and the world they live in. The stories are imaginative & without the use of cheap sex scenes. I am nearly looking forward to many more adventures.

Wonderful story

I love the story of Joanna and Sam and their undying love for each other. I also liked the movement to a closer relationship between Mrs Halloway and McAdams.

Another good mystery! nother good mystery!

Another great story in this series. The narrator detracts from it all with her attempts at male voices that she whispers instead of changing to a deeper voice, so it not only doesn’t sound like a man but you have to turn it up to hear. It disrupts the whole story and am afraid the next in this series may have to be in book form even though all the narrator’s female voices are wonderful.

HORRIBLE Portrayal of Daniel's Voice

I don't know if I can continue listening to this series of books if this reader continues with this version of Daniel's voice. Ugh!!!

Great series. Daniel’s voice is unbearable

Love the series, great characters, great story. I like all voices but Daniel’s is just horrible and ruins the scenes with him

Predictable but entertaining

The story is a bit predictable from the beginning but I do enjoy this series. The narrator can’t do a male voice especially Daniel’s, she makes him sound like a frog with laryngitis

Narrator really detracts from a great story.

I so enjoy these stories and find the characters and setting very interesting. But the narrator just cannot do male voices. The men whisper and mumble so I have to constantly adjust the volume. Very frustrating.
