About this listen
Parenting strategies you can be proud of.
You know the feeling. You got frustrated, desperate, or overwhelmed, and you reacted before you could think it through. Whether it’s a onetime thing or it becomes a habit, we all parent in ways we don’t like. But it doesn’t have to continue. Whether it’s bribery, yelling, counting to three, or threats of punishment you didn’t mean to make, reacting never feels good. But if you can learn to act with intentionality, you’ll feel better about your choices and be grateful for the results.
Dr. Kathy Koch (pronounced “cook”), author of Screens and Teens and 8 Great Smarts, will teach you proven strategies for training your child’s heart and parenting in a way that honors God. She’ll help you move your child from “I can’t, I won’t" to “I can, I will, and I did”.
We can do better than “Because I said so” or “No screen time for three days”. We can do better than mere behavior modification. We can change our children’s hearts and teach them to do what is good, godly, and right even when we’re not around. Once you’ve learned to put these motivation strategies in place, there’s no more need to nag; you’ll be astounded at what your kids will do without being asked.
Dr. Kathy doesn’t offer a quick-fix. Starting with the heart is all about changing what children believe in order to change their behavior. And learning to use this kind of motivation takes effort, consistency, and strategy, but it works. And it’s never too late!
If you’re willing to commit to a little hard work up front, you’ll enjoy your kids, your life, and yourself much more when you learn to start with the heart.

Mamas only connect to celebrate surviving another day and to share in their misery, rather than rejoice in what God has done and to build each other up in hard times. There has a be a better way, a biblical way, for mamas to grow and thrive. M Is for Mama offers advice, encouragement, and scripturally sound strategies seasoned with a little bit of humor to help you embrace the challenge of biblical motherhood and raise your children with love and wisdom.

Start with the Heart is full of practical wisdom and encouragement that is applicable for everyday, real-life parenting. Dr. Kathy Koch has written it in a way that will help with your perspective on how you encourage your children, how you teach them, how you coach them every day. It's such a wonderful tool to help you understand how to build character in your children. This is definitely a book to have around to read and re-read throughout your parenting journey. And would be a great gift to give to new parents/anyone who works with children. Buy a hard copy - Keep it handy, highlight, apply it daily. Highly recommend reading "Start with the Heart - How to Motivate Your Kids to Be Compassionate, Responsible, and Brave (Even When You're Not Around)". Thank you, Dr. Koch, for taking the time to write this.

Wonderful advice
Start with the Heart is exactly what I needed to read right now. Kathy has given me tools and understanding to work with my children. Ive already seen a difference in my 15 year old as I've changed my words and tactics with him. I'm so thankful and excited for this God-send to our family.

Great content, poor narration
Kathy Koch has a wonderful perspective on parenting and educating children. I love all the advice she gave in the first quarter of the book! But that's as far as I got in listening to it. I was unable to stand the narration for more than 5 minutes at a time because it's so monotone. I will read a paper copy of this book to get the great content instead.

amazing book but narration is awful
I unfortunately could only get through half the book. I kept coming back to the book because the content was what i have been looking for as a parent and I will definitely be buying it so I can read it myself. This will also be a good book to reference back to. But I couldn't get past the speaker. It was dry, dull and no life to the reading. You couldn't feel the words behind it and that's something i need when I'm listening to a book so that was a game changer.
