About this listen

Single mom Vanessa Holt has a daughter she loves, a supportive family, and her art. Having given up on finding true love - if that even exists, which she doubts - she's content to put romance on the back burner. But not everyone agrees. Those nearest and dearest are ready to see Vanessa let down her long blonde hair and have some fun.

To put their grumbling to rest, Vanessa agrees to go on a date with the next man who asks. Luckily for her, that man is Cameron Thomas, her daughter's extremely handsome science teacher. She'd felt a spark of chemistry the first time she'd laid eyes on him. Now she's ready to lay a whole lot more on the sexy bachelor.

But just as things get hot, they also get heavy. When the man who broke Vanessa's heart reappears, her old doubts and fears about love rush to the surface. Will her fresh start with Cameron be over before it's barely begun?

A new heroine PLEASE!!!

The writing on this story is really good, the narration is excellent but I wanted to stab the heroine and felt sorry for the hero. While this is supposedly a romance, the story focuses more on the relationship between the heroine and her daughter and subsequent family drama. The heroine was hard to like and I had to force myself through the last chapters of this book. The story ends right about the place where the romance would actually start. This book didn't really leave me with a feel-good feeling; more like...huh??

Ok

Mixed Review
1st half - 4.5 Stars
2nd half - 1.5 Stars

I really enjoyed the first half of the story but was disappointed in the second half. The point of the first half was to start living life after hiding behind her daughter. The second half had her throwing away all her gains and hiding behind her daughter.

3 things that really bothered me.

1. If your baby daddy (or baby momma) comes back after missing the first thirteen years of your child's life and threatens to try to take her from you... It has a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding plus the child has a significant voice in where they want to live.

2. Taking child support is not giving power to the ex nor is it a bad thing as it goes to the child.

3. Parents taking time for themselves is not selfish!!

I did like the story but the "I must run so I won't be let down" moment was a frustrating way to create drama and did not fit with how well the H treated her.

Starting Over

I really liked the storyline itself but I felt that Vanessa was really immature or flighty. I can’t really put my thumb on the right description. She uses her daughter as an excuse, she lets everyone dictate her life to her including her 13 year old daughter. Josie has a major attitude/tween problem but she never really says anything to her about that because what Josie says brings on “revelations” that she apparently hasn’t realized about herself. The story also kind of ended abruptly. It’s was like oh I realize all these things about myself now we are HEA the end.

Vanessa is a single mom who hasn’t made time for anything but her daughter Josie for the last 13 years. Her boyfriend was scared about having a baby and left her while she was pregnant. So she has basically stayed away from relationships since. Now her daughter is starting 8th grade and Vanessa meets the cute science teacher Mr.Thomas or Cameron. After running into each other a few times and after Josie tells her mother it’s time to spend time on herself and it isn’t weird Vanessa & Cameron start dating. Around the same time life gets complicated for Vanessa and she feels that dating will take her away from focusing on her daughter. While this is a normal single mother type fear/thought Vanessa is really only using as an excuse for not wanting to get hurt again.

Just wish there was more story than inner dialogue

Great narrative, story would have been better if not for the wish washy female stuff at the end. I really wanted there to be more interaction between the mom and new man in her life. Instead, there was so much inner dialogue, there was little room for actual story.

Love this Book, Barbie and the narrator Kate!

I love the way Barbie writes and only wish she'd write more books soon! Her characters have a voice that I can relate to and believe. I find myself lost in the story. This one is of a single mother and her amazing daughter and the journey back to finding herself as a woman again. Allowing herself to date after a 13 yr hiatus and listening to her daughter along the way=) I would read this book again!
