About this listen
Nothing is what it appears to be in this lush destination thriller that takes listeners behind the ornate doors of the most secretive palazzos in Venice, romantic chateaus in France and the Vatican’s halls of power. Contessa Giselle Verona - the art world’s current "It Girl" is happily absorbed in her creation of dangerous sculptures that have gotten her banned from museums, but have collectors reaching for their checkbooks. Her life begins to spin out of control after she’s thrown up against another artist at a murder scene, and a powerful man she's never met decides to wage war against her in-laws. This suspenseful game of cat and mouse ricochets around sumptuous locales as family secrets draw in the Vatican, the Mafia and threatens the foundations of floating city itself.
"Anna Erikssön Bendewald takes you away with colorful characters and plenty of suspense. Seductions and power struggles propel you deeper into this entertaining romp even as you know there’s a bomb ticking away - and his name is Salvio Scortini - a complex man who could use some anger management classes or lithium?!?"

I touched her confectionary creation, and she told me off. Slapping my hands and cursing in her own unique fashion. No one talked to me that way. I liked it. I liked her cake even more. So, I took her to Italy to bake for me. I should have asked her first, but I had a feeling she'd say no. But I brought her cat, so that should count for something.

Story
Anita Topaz, Queen of the Bodice Rippers, is deliberately a woman of mystery. But pressure is mounting for Anita to reveal herself to her clamoring public. It's scrutiny that writer Paris Ellison can't allow, especially since the glamorous "Anita" is a work of pure fiction. Lady Diana Beckinsale excels at disappearing into a good role. Especially if that role gets her close to certain objects she desires. When Diana proposes the perfect solution to Paris' predicament, Paris is less than enthusiastic. She can't let someone as unsettling and observant as Diana get too close.

Story
An American girl finds her prince in this "fun and dishy" (People) royal romance inspired by Prince William and Kate Middleton. American Bex Porter was never one for fairy tales. Her twin sister Lacey was always the romantic, the one who daydreamed of being a princess. But it's adventure-seeking Bex who goes to Oxford and meets dreamy Nick across the hall - and Bex who finds herself accidentally in love with the heir to the British throne. Nick is wonderful, but he comes with unimaginable baggage.

Listening brought out details I missed in reading
I enjoyed reading Stealing Venice so much that I decided to listen to it a year later. Kristen Sieh was an excellent narrator. She gave the text a depth and texture, different from the written word, but also very satisfying. The characters were brought to life in ways that were distinctive from in my own mind, yet pleasant. I enjoyed seeing these characters through someone else's inner voice. Kristen Sieh distinctly demonstrates the difference between a storyteller and just a narrator. I can't wait to listen to "Storming Venice" (next in the trilogy).

Very good summer listen
Stealing Venice is the first book in The Venice Trilogy of romantic suspense novels by Anna Bendewald. This is a beautifully written thriller that also combines mystery and romance in order to deliver a captivating narrative experience for the listener.
When a renowned, but infamous artist witnesses a crime, she is pulled into a series of events that will change her life forever. You’ll step behind the ornate doors of the most secretive palazzos in Venice, accompanied by a colorful cast of eccentric characters. The action flows freely at a swift pace and you will be pushing forward all the time in order to discover what happens next.
Renowned actor and Tony award-winning Broadway performer Kristen Sieh, who you may know from blockbuster TV series such as House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black, or Boardwalk Empire, turns out to be also a terrific narrator! The audio production of Stealing Venice benefits tremendously from her performance. Kristen reads in a clear and warm voice, keeps the pacing perfectly, and brings each of the main characters to life superbly with an extended range of distinct voices and accents.
Stealing Venice could be the perfect summer listen for mystery thrillers fans. You should definitely have this audiobook on your radar, especially with such an excellent performance from Kristen. I hope to get my hands on the second book in this captivating series.

One of the best stories I've listened to EVER!
Five out of five stars!!! This suspenseful romance was perfectly narrated with numerous voices and accents..perfecto:) Warm and rich characters with touches of humor and lots of love of life. So now I will get the next book to see what happens and the one after, of course. My yard work and housecleaning flew by with this enjoyable tale;)
