About this listen

Imagine you, your spouse, and your 16-year-old son are invited to go out of town. When you get to your destination, you discover someone tricked you into going on the trip. If that wasn't bad enough, you soon realize your son was poisoned and there is no known antidote. Your child has 10 hours to live, 12 at most. This is exactly what happened to Dr. Amy Sinclair, a medical researcher from Zionsville, Indiana, after she was invited to deliver a medical lecture in Danville, Illinois.

Still is the enthralling story of the lengths Amy and her husband go through to save the life of their only son. Still is extremely captivating, fast-paced, and full of twists. It grabs you from the first minute and doesn't let you go until you are finished. The best part of this story is its ending. It is strong, emotional, and very powerful. Besides that, it is nothing like you imagine it will be! If you love medical murder mysteries, Still is a must-listen!

An Urgent Matter of Research

This isn’t only a medical thriller. It is also a murder mystery (and an excellent one, too), and a scientific detective story. I, at least, tend to forget how much searching for a specific scientific result has in common with a traditional mystery, especially when that result happens to be the antidote to a poison with a lethality rate of 100%, and the antidote is needed to save the life of a child.

The book is beautifully put together, and all the elements are woven into a strong, tight cloth. The writing is straightforward, yet strong and evocative, and the characters are extremely well developed. We get to know several of them, and even those who have only “walk on” parts are constructed with care and color.

The narrator gives a truly professional performance, too, and is a pleasure to listen to. I only noticed one mispronunciation, but everything else was extremely well done, including character differentiation, and I liked the way this narrator dealt with both male and female voices, which can be tricky.

I give this book and narrator 5 out of 5 stars. I received this book in exchange for this unbiased review via the courtesy of AudioBookBlast dot com.

EXCELLENT! LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

If you could sum up Still in three words, what would they be?

EXCELLENT THRILLING MYSTERY!!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Still?

When we got to know who the killer was finally...I never suspected!!!

Which character – as performed by Roberto Scarlato – was your favorite?

Ben!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Ben when he decided to sacrifice himself, he was very brave!

Any additional comments?

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

I was drawn into this story from the very beginning...and did not want to put it down! Ben and Amy go on a weekend trip with there son Billy, not knowing it was all a setup....Billy ends up poisoned and is quickly dying and they can not figure out why! Well there is a mad man among them, and he has revenge on his mind...with little time the cops and Ben have to figure out who this killer is and how to save Billy...But will it be to late?

Super exciting, and excellently narrated...I highly recommend!!!!

WOW! I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Still to be better than the print version?

I would definitely assume it is because the narrator was amazing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Still?

Probably the ending! BUT, I was absolutely intrigued throughout most of the book!

Have you listened to any of Roberto Scarlato’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No this was the first time, and he was VERY good! He brought all of the characters to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending!! (about the last 5 minutes of the book!) But I have to say, this writer can really bring out the emotions in you! I found myself HATING Layla (the police lieutenant) so much that I wanted to scream! haha not to mention, some of the other officers hanging around! Lol that's just good writing though. ;)

Any additional comments?

YES! I was born in Danville, Illinois so that was surprising to hear it mentioned in the book. Also, I want MORE BOOKS from this author! (Preferably through amazon) His writing is brilliant!! I am not usually so impressed with an audiobook that I find myself very EAGER to write a review! I couldn't wait to with this one.

Still a good book

"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com."

I liked this book i did. It is maybe a bit short? 8 hrs and 38 mins is long, i get that. It just feels really short. That is maybe a good thing, but i am not sure to say it better then that i wish it was longer. It feels like something is almost left out, therefor not a full score!

Roberto Scarlato is a new voice for me. He more or less what this book needs. Then i really enjoy his voice, but maybe not the voice work of 100% of the book, but really close to it. So i would love to hear his voice again!

4.5 STARS

This book was released several years ago. For some reason I overlooked it until recently. I feel grateful that it was offered for review.

A couple’s sixteen year old son has been poisoned, his parents are rushing trying to find an antidote. At the same time a serial killer is stalking the hospital. Will they solve all the mysteries before it's too late? How many will die? Who is the killer? Why???
Lots of twists and turns. The ending was surprising.

The narration was well done, Roberto Scarlato has a pleasing voice. He put in plenty of emotion into the performance.

This team of author and narrator are a winning combination.

What would you do to save your child?

Still is a rare gem. It is a medical murder mystery tat starts off with a doctor getting ready to go to to a conference and give a lecture, but when her son drops over and goes to the hospital she learns that he has been poisoned and has up to 12 hours to live. As it stands we come to find out that the poisoner has a grudge against her for the percieved malpractice of the doctor. The logic is that she caused a death, so a life will be taken to balance the scales.

The book is riveting, and there are a lot of characters, most of whom are in th suspect pool. The nice thing is that the medical stuff seems to be well researched, but the author literally knows diddily about guns. My only moment of disbelief came when they actually reached a quick diagnosis about the poisoning. I've been to one to many hospitals in my time, and they would have been running tests for days trying to figure out what was going on. I know because I've seen it, nd I have a ton of family members in the medical field. As a funeral director, I see too many people wh were sent home as being fine only to drop over dead hours later. Not that I don't put any stock in the medical profession, but I know that when something isn't obvious they either cut bait or blow out the doors running tests. So, for that and the guns I dropped a star.

Anyway, the characterizaions and reactions of the people are real, and you could easily see this playing out in real life. The ending is an actual surprise, and I am pretty good at seeing things coming.

Roberto Scarlato manages to narrate the hell out of this book. I really respect his talant and skill, and he has never failed to impress me in his narration. I don't know how, but he gets a real grasp on whomever he is playing, and gives them life. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Great Suspenseful murder mystery

A great suspenseful story. So suspenseful towards the end that I was tempted to skip to the end to see what happens but I didn't. Enjoyed this Audible book a lot. The narrator did a good job also.

Great medical murder mystery!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Still to be better than the print version?

They are exactly the same, except that one is print and the other is read to you. Both are great and tell a wonder story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Still?

The book is fast-paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. But the best part is the end of this book. It is superb! A must read.

Have you listened to any of Roberto Scarlato’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first book but the narrator does a great job reading and acting the story. Well done.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The very end is quite moving and totally unpredictable.

Any additional comments?

This is a must read or listen to story. Well done author, Dr L Jan Eira. Well done narrator, Roberto Scarlato. Please give us more. Must have more books. Stat!!!

Loved it!

Narration - Roberto Scarlato - Pretty Good - Good range of character voices. LOVED his voice for the bad guy!

So, I really enjoyed this story and the way it was told (even though at times it confused me). There are some flashbacks, and it switches to different characters and different storylines - but stick with it. For a bit, you'll be wondering why we are suddenly here and learning about this little story line and then all the sudden you find out why. I kind of like that style of writing - so many things that intertwine and you have to keep your wits about you as your reading/listening.

I couldn't tell you if the medical talk was accurate or not, or if the police actions were realistic and believable. The ending could have used some more explaining - I could insert some spoiler material here, but I think I'll just leave it at that. It's a great listen!

What a Joke!

Too contrived, but that in and of itself is forgivable. What really made me give this book the lowest possible rating is the writing - especially the dialog. If you ever want to do a MST3K of books - this is your meal ticket!
