About this listen

The trio of brave friends who make up Shark, Inc. - Luke, Maribel and Sabina - dive back into adventure in Stingers, the follow-up to best-selling author Randy Wayne White’s Fins.

Marine biologist Doc Ford invites Maribel, Luke, and Sabina to a remote island in the Bahamas where lionfish, a beautiful and venomous inhabitant of the South Pacific that has invaded Florida and the Caribbean, are not just upsetting the balance of nature by damaging the coral reefs - their sting has put several people in the hospital.

What Doc and Captain Hannah Smith don’t mention is that the island is riddled with limestone caves, once home to a band of pirates, and stories of Spanish gold have lured outlaw treasure hunters to the area.

When the trio finds precious artifacts, they agree to guard the secret until they’ve thoroughly explored the spot. Soon, outlaws search for the trio, hoping they will lead them to riches.

I'm a big fan of Randy Wayne White. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he branched out to Young Adult genre. I sort of enjoyed Fins so got Stingers when it came out. Now I'm done with Sharks Incorporated. I want Doc Ford, Hannah and all their adventures back. I've had enough of bratty Sedina, the 10 year old. I'm ready for some real adult adventure.

Also, the narrator is the same as in Fins, but I don't like him as much in Stingers. He's more breathy and hard to understand because of that. I felt like I was constantly adjusting the volume to stay with him.

we enjoyed Fins and now Stingers. These kids are having more adventures in the Florida back waters.

Great story for kids and adults. We can't wait for

I love this second book in White’s middle grade series. The writing about the Bahamas is beautiful and evocative, like in his Doc Ford books. The story is great for kids and a fun read for adults, too. it is written in a more straightforward style than the Doc Ford series, but portrays the complexity of life that even kids experience. All of the kids struggle with something—learning a new language, financial troubles at home, shyness, self doubt. But they persevere and succeed despite this. And one child does something really wrong, but then we understand why. It doesn’t excuse it, but gently helps kids understand what may be behind people’s actions.

Great read for middle school kids and adults

Not a fan of this at all. Could not get into the story. Moved too slow and did not care for the narrator. Very disappointed I purchased this one.

Children's book, not pleased with the whole Doc Ford lead in, should have researched it further
