About this listen

This stunning debut novel from Australian author Lucy Christopher generated considerable buzz for its nonstop suspense and breathtaking imagery. Sixteen-year-old Gemma is on a layover at Bangkok Airport, headed to Vietnam with her parents. Then the vaguely familiar Ty drugs Gemma’s drink and steals her away. Her head swirling in confusion, Gemma soon finds herself fighting to survive in the unforgiving Outback.

What a beautiful and heartfelt tale!

This story was written with such an amazing point of view. I found it captivating and poignant, full of pathos, human tragedy and anguish, so much that I couldn't put it down. My heart bled for the child inside of the man who stole Gemma. Read this story or better yet, listen to it on audible. I have no doubt you'll be moved by this truly eloquently written account of the bond of love and hate between two people who will never be the same.

My favorite book

I read this book for the first time when I was 16 and absolutely loved it. Years later I decide to listen to the Audiobook and I fell in love all over again! This book is unlike any other I’ve read. It might not be for everyone because it can be a bit slow but the story is just so beautifully written and unique. Gemma is writing to her kidnapper Ty so the whole book has a really interesting point of view. You feel sorry for Ty and it makes you feel like you have Stockholm syndrome along with Gemma. Definitely would recommend to anyone who likes romance with a twist. The sequel is amazing as well!

Worth repeating!

I bought this book this little knowledge of the story. I loved the story and the way it was told and the performance so much that a year later I listen to it all over again. As I finish this book for the second time I was still sad to see the characters go…I will be looking for more Lucy Christopher books!

This is one of my favorite books of all time and hearing it narrated is a dream come true and not to forget the way she pronounces "too"

Poignant and Beautiful

This story made me incredibly sad, not for her but for Ty, all he ever wanted was to be loved and I get that. This is the second time I've listen to this book. The first was in high school when I had to read 7 books for some stupid project but being Dyslexic and ADHD that just wasn't going to happen. Back then I listened to it half heartily just enough to write a review and move onto the next book but this time it was like I was Gemma I could feel the heat beating down, the dry arrid land, the loneliness of it all. But I didn't feel her fear, from the word go it was obvious that Ty loved her beyond everything else, I don't like the normal romantic clap trap but this was different, subtle and not full of cliches. I don't want to give anything away because it has to be listened to. But I'm definitely going to listen to it again at some point as I listened to the whole thing in 2 nights and just couldn't turn it off. Emily Gray narrates it beautifully she definitely adds a lot to the book. I recommend it 100%
