MEGHAN
The scary alien hunter has his eyes on me. He’s got sharp fangs, massive claws, huge horns, and walks around in nothing more than a loincloth! Totally terrifying! So why is my body betraying me and reacting in ways it shouldn’t?
With troublemakers inside the gates and deadly space bugs roaming outside, I soon realize Mal’k is the last person I should fear. Because in this crazy bugpocalypse, a hyper-protective Xarc’n warrior is the very thing I need.
MAL’K
I know she’s mine the moment I lay eyes on her. Too bad Meghan’s terrified of me. My human is frightened of everything and cries out in fear, even in her dreams. I long to chase away her demons and wake with her in my arms.
When she leaves the hunters’ compound to live with a group of humans, I follow along, offering to help them forage. She may whimper at the sight of me now, but I’ll never give up until she whimpers under me.
While this is a complete romance with an HEA, it is best listened to as part of a series.

The narrators did a great job of bringing this story to life. I enjoyed their voices immensely. I recommend listening to this audiobook.

Meghan, however, was much harder to connect with. Her constant fear and inability to adapt made her feel frustratingly stagnant at times. She often reacted to stress with panic, repeatedly falling into the same patterns and making decisions she later regretted.
That said, the world-building continues to expand, and the narration keeps the story engaging. While this book didn’t resonate with me as strongly as others in the series, Mal’k’s devotion adds heart to the story, and the ongoing development of the bugpocalypse world keeps things interesting. It’s still a good addition and worth a listen for series fans.

Character development: ☹️😳🥺☺️🥰
The heroine: Meghan - she came from the same group that Nikki from Rescued by the Hunter. That para-military group doesn’t want to give up the women because they use them for cooking, cleaning and other, more sinister activities. They had taken the women’s shoes so if they tried to escape, they would have to do so barefoot. Though Meghan didn’t care and escaped without their shoes. She is now staying with the New Franklin survivors contingent of humans.
The Hero: Mal’k - he is obsessed with Meghan and keeps sniffing her because he knows that she is his mate. However, he sees that she is wary of him and he can smell her fear. His chest starts rumbling whenever she is near.
The Story: Meghan is afraid of all the hunters including Mal’k. She nearly fainted when he smiled at her with his sharp, pointed teeth. She tried to stay away from him and did her best to keep from being alone with him. He can’t understand why she is so afraid of him and Meghan locks up whenever he is near.
Like the rest of the series, this book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. Troy Duran and Keira Stevens do the narration and along with the good storylines, and world building are a big part of why I bought every audiobook in this series. I love Troy’s deep clear voice and Keira sounds young and is great at showing emotions through her voice.
The continuing story of the bugpocalypse was good. In this one the two main characters and the rest of the survivors of New Franklin have moved closer to the compound where the Xarc’n warriors and their mates live. They were fighting against the para-military group and also within their group there were some that were against the hunters and were causing dissidence within the group.

The overall story line is getting better and better. There is suspense, adventure, drama, romance, humor… I want to read the next book asap, as we gotten a glimpse of the next Hero.
I absolutely love this series, the books are very well written. You can read them separately but I recommend reading them in order to enjoy the continuation of the story.

Her weeks of terror were draining. It made me focus on other annoying aspects of the plot line that I might have been willing to overlook if I wasn’t bored with the couple. Then, she says she trusts him and yet the first instance where she should believe in him she thinks the worst without even asking him. I think he could do much better.
Even the heady rasp of Troy Duran’s voice couldn’t save this book. That man could make the dictionary sound sultry.

The mfc in this story was too afraid of the hunters to live at the compound, so she moved into the human settlement. And boy did she have a personality suited to that group of thieves, sociopaths, bltches, sheeple and lame duck ‘leaders’. Megan was THE WORST. She was disloyal, weak, frightened and made constant excuses for the vilest of people. She Judas'd Mal'k AFTER the mating bond had started! Can someone tell me why she kept insisting that her previous HUMAN group disbanded due to "infighting" when we know that they were murdering each other? In book 4 we were introduced to her running for her life, barefoot, across a parking lot (the Xarc'n rescued her), after living with the Raiders (HUMANS) who beat her, raped her, and made her a slave. In this book members of her precious new HUMAN group threw her into a Rubbermaid tote at gunpoint and kidnapped her. But the Xarc'n are terrifying 🙄. Just a weird character. Pure Stockholm syndrome.
