About this listen

Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett investigates a mysterious death at a secret remote high-tech facility in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller CJ Box.

When a prominent University of Wyoming professor goes missing, authorities are stumped. That is, until Joe Pickett makes two surprising discoveries while hunting down a wounded elk on his district as an epic spring storm descends upon him. First, he finds the professor's vehicle parked on a remote mountainside. Then Joe finds the professor's frozen and mutilated body. When he attempts to learn more, his investigation is obstructed by federal agents, extreme environmentalists, and Governor Colter Allen. Nate Romanowski is rebuilding his falconry company—and financing this through crypto mining with the assistance of Geronimo Jones. He's then approached by a shadowy group of local militant activists that is gaining in power and influence, and demanding that Wyoming join other western states and secede from the union—by force, if necessary. They ask Nate to throw in with them, but he's wary. Should he trust them, or is he being set up? As a storm of peril gathers around them, Joe and Nate confront it in different ways—and maybe, for the first time, on opposite sides.

Excellent storytelling

I have always been impressed with CJ Box’s ability to weave together a great story. Storm Watch does not disappoint in this regard. The plot was intriguing, and I could not figure out how all of the story elements were going to come together, Box did a masterful job of pulling everything together at the end. The book ended with a twist that I never saw coming. Loved it! David Chandler’s narration was good and made for easy listening. Wish we didn’t have to wait another year or more for the next book to be published in this series.

Joe Picket Never Disappoints

This book was predictable and fit the formula perfectly. It didn’t surprise me like some of the previous books. The characters are well-known and, especially in Missy’s case, annoying. Missy needs to just go away, and we need more character r development and involvement by Geronimo and the three sisters. Joe needs a new role as either the new sheriff or the head of the department.

As always, an awesome tale!

Mr. Box continues his hot streak of entertaining yarns with a nice reboot of some familiar characters, including the bad penny better known as Missy and indomitable Rulan, along with some new personalities. Well done, CJ!

Joe - and C.J. - are back!

The character Joe Pickett was almost unrecognizable in Book 22, Shadows Reel. The entire novel made me wonder whether C.J. had gone off the rails. It was filled with barely related story lines and right-wing conspiracy theories.
I was glad to see that the old Joe Pickett is back in Storm Watch. Box has presented a remarkably accurate picture of Wyoming's weather, people, economy, corrupt politics, and current controversies while telling a well-organized, suspenseful, and satisfying story.

Another good Joe Picket book.

I’ve gotta say I’m disappointed in some of the reviews for this book. Obviously some of you have never read a CJ Box novel before. Nor are you from the mountain west.
