Publisher's summary

Someone is stalking the UCLA Medical Center - a depraved madman who is preying upon the staff, particularly those who are young and female. No stranger to the terrible ravages of senseless violence, E.R. Chief Dr. David Spier must keep the emergency room running smoothly and efficiently, even as his terrified co-workers wonder who will be the next victim. But when the monster himself is dragged into the E.R. in handcuffs - hideously burned, suffering, and begging for mercy - the nightmare is far from over...it has only just begun. A single act of humanity is about to unleash a bloody wave of horror that threatens to engulf everyone and everything Dr. Spier cares about. His most sacred oath as a healer has become a death sentence - for David Spier...and for a city under siege.

Great Narration

Scott Brick always delivers a great narration. I love his emotion and tension filled performance.

One of the best.

Not Gregg's usual fare.

I struggled to finish this one. The setting and storyline just did not grab me or keep me enthralled as I usually am with Gregg's stories.

Caution: tough material ahead

Yes, a very interesting story, but the material is a bit disturbing. Scott Brick is always a great orator.
The story is good with a few twists and turns.

Usually love his books

The main character was pretty annoying. I found myself rolling my eyes at his actions and reactions to the protagonist/serial killer who spent the book trying to maim and kill him and the woman he loves. It was a little too “bad guy had a bad childhood so we understand why he hurts people.” In one word - annoying.

Not his best, but not bad

Not the authors, best book, but I found it entertaining. I could totally see this one getting made into a movie.

Good but way too long

It was a good book but it was about 6 hours too long. Scott Brick is always great.

Very interesting and human story

This was not what I expected from a thriller, no good guys with mad fighting skills chasing bad guys and saving the world. Just a doctor trying to make sense of what he knew of the world and the new reality he was faced with. Yet it was human, compelling, and filled with thought and action. I found myself compelled to keep listening.

Scott Brick is, as always, superb! He can read the phone book and I will listen.

Loved It!

I don't know why so many bad reviews, I loved it! As a nurse, it hit close to home! I have been in a bad book slump, and this broke it! Thanks!

Wow! First Greg Hurwitz book I didn’t like!

The main character, constantly being made a hero, was arrogant and annoying! Loved Ed! And the sappy “ I don’t think you’re ( fill in the blank) got old fast. If I were Diane, I think I’d be less enthralled by someone who basically caused me to be scarred and permanently disfigured. Lastly, David is a doctor not a detective, and by getting involved in something that he wasn’t trained to do, he inadvertently caused more harm to others. I felt Jenkins character was developed really well , from an angry out of control man, to someone deeply saddened who can’t help someone he loves. Found the book frustrating.
