About this listen

As a globe-trotting freelance photographer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Lori Finning has seen just about everything. But when she lands an assignment on the barren, snow-swept island of Newfoundland, she finds herself in harsh and unfamiliar territory.

During the long, dreary winters in the isolated fishing community of Stormy Cove, gossiping is the primary pastime. So Lori is surprised when she learns of a crime the locals have spent twenty years not talking about: the strange, unsolved murder of a teenage girl. As she delves deeper into the village's past, she'll discover dark family secrets, unexplained crimes, and an undeniable attraction to Noah, a taciturn local fisherman who just might hold all the answers.

Fantastic story with great narration!

I really enjoyed this book! Mysteries are my favorite and I was pleased the storyline in this book kept me guessing. The author did a fabulous job describing the landscape and brings the reader into the community! The narrator was an excellent choice for the book and captured the main character perfectly. I will look for more books from both the author and the narrator.

Finished it in two days!

This had me guessing with all the twists and turns. I couldn't stop listening. And, I enjoyed learning about the village culture. This was a great listen and I highly recommend it.

Perfect...

This is one of those books that I thought when I first started that I wouldn't care for it but the more I listened the more intrigued I became and it ended up being 100 and 10% wonderful

Good but not great

The story is ok, if a bit muddled. The dialogue all feels very forced and unbelievable. The narrator is also just ok, her voice feels wrong for this part somehow.

mind wander.

This book was a great distraction from my life. Just the right element of romance and drama to keep things interesting!

Pronounced 'New Found Land',

Enjoyed the book but every time the narrator pronounced 'Newfoundland' wrong I cringed. Also in NL 'police' are referred to as 'Mounties' - RCMP, not police. For many Newfoundlanders tea is the preferred hot beverage not coffee, so wouldn't expect to go into a home or Bed and Breakfast and have coffee in a carafe waiting for guests.

Had me guessing

I enjoyed the characters and the story line. I was guessing all the way through as to who did what and I usually figure a plot out before the end of the book. I wish the ending were more developed. It seemed the book just ended and while the plot was wrapped up something just felt wrong to me. Like it ended abruptly. Loved reading about life in Newfoundland and the performance was good
