About this listen

Sometimes, we fall in love on mission trips even though we know we’ll break up when we get back. Sometimes, you have to shot-block a friend’s prayer because she’s asking God to bless an obviously bad dating relationship. Sometimes, you think, “I wish I had a T-shirt that said ‘I direct deposit my tithe’ so people wouldn’t judge me.” Sometimes, the stuff that comes with faith is funny. This is that stuff.

Jonathan Acuff’s Stuff Christians Like is your field guide to all things Christian. You’ll learn the culinary magic of the crock-pot. Think you’ve got a Metro worship leader? Use Acuff’s checklist. Want to avoid a prayer handholding faux pas? Acuff has you covered. Like a satirical grenade, Acuff brings us the humor and honesty that galvanized more than a million online readers from more than 200 countries in a new portable version. Welcome to the funny side of faith.

Would you listen to Stuff Christians Like again? Why?

I have already listened twice. It is extremely funny and is a perfect display of sarcasm.

The story on the prayer circle was great!

I laughed the whole way through the book and shared parts of the book with others.

Extremely hilarious book on Christian culture

If we don't learn to laugh at ourselves we aren't going to be able to laugh with other people. I like that as the the premise of this book of essays and think for the most part, he does a great job. Please don't expect heavy, please don't look for side-aching humor, think fun with a bit of funky and youthful confessions. My best advise is if you think Kanye West is a direction and you think Jay-Z are letters in the alphabet, keep going, but if you see the word Psalms and your first thought is what kind of tree is that - - - jump on in, the holy water is fine.

Religion is too important to take too seriously

Would you listen to Stuff Christians Like again? Why?

I would listen to this again, I have listened to it several times and will listen to it more.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the Chapter called "Who told you you were naked?" I laughed, cried a little and laughed again in a five minute section.

Fantastic thoughts, writing, and humor!

My 14 year old daughter and I turned this on to listen to on a long trip. We had to cut quickly to the 2nd chapter because the opening story was about sex and honeymoons. Thanks, Jonathan. Most of the rest was hilariously true. Oh, and there is another instance somewhere later that launches into a similar topic.

Almost Totally Funny

Admittedly I am probably not the target audience for this book. I listened to the preview and thought it could be funny. When I got to the book it very quickly became mundane. A collection of complete randomness from the blog, it did not flow in an enjoyable way. Would probably be better read in pieces, not listened to as a whole. The author pointed out several instances where he was quoted with people not realizing the statement was satirical, and I have to agree that the line is so fine, most of the examples seemed to be plain ol' stories and I did not catch the humor. Near the end he points out the "serious" section which I will admit I could not distinguish from the satire section. If you are a church-going christian, you probably would enjoy this book, but it's not for me.

Not as funny as the preview

Hilarious! Great! Easy!

Laugh Out Loud Funny!

What kind of sense if humor must I have if I had already slightly observed many of these observations. Jon just said them in a slightly kinder and with a more extensive vocabulary than I could have ever. Just a truly enjoyable book that lets me chuckle at myself. Yup I'm the Christian he's writing about and I'm glad for the giggle.

Laughed out loud.
