About this listen

The Top 10 Bestseller

'Beautifully written, comforting and utterly uplifting, Lucy Coleman’s stories are the perfect tonic when life is a little grey.' Holly Martin

Is a change as good as a rest?

When married couple Fern and Aiden have a windfall, their reactions could not be more different. While Fern is content to pay off their mortgage and build a nest egg before starting a family, her husband is set on traveling the world.

Fern’s not much of a back-packer so, before she knows it, the idea of a ‘marriage gap year’ takes shape. And, as Aiden heads off to the wilds of Australia, Fern chooses the more restful Provence for her year out.

Set amidst the glorious French scenery, Château de Vernon offers a retreat from the hustle and bustle of normal life, and Fern agrees to help out in return for painting lessons from the owner – renowned, but rather troubled, painter Nico.

As their year unfolds in very different ways, will the time apart transform their marriage, or will it drive Fern and Aiden even further apart....

Such a Great Book! I loved it! I almost passed on this author altogether after seeing a review about not just""swearing 🤬" but, using God's name inappropriately (I'm no dummy, I won't say it even in a quote..not because of His wrath... I don't do it or listen to it out of respect and love for My Perfect Father) BUT Something (or Someone lol) told me I should go ahead and listen. Well I was impressed 👏 👌 👍 😎! I am actually being serious. I might be wrong, but I dont remember hearing a single swear and I know I didn't hear anything that would frustrate the Holy Spirit. And on top of that... this is a really great story! I found myself looking at maps trying to see how long it would take me to get to a place like this haha!!

Great Book, I loved it!!! No Swearing

Interesting characters, a story that will take you away from the real world and immerse you into the lives of everyone that lives or visits the Chateau.

Lovely

It was a good book to me. I enjoyed the narration. very well done. the story started a bit slow but it was necessary to the story line.

I honestly wasn't sure what I was getting into when I started this book. I enjoyed the storyline and the narrator was good, except sometimes she'd get breathy and be almost whispering.
I only gave the book four stars because I'd have like to have seen the author elaborate a bit more on some of the storyline. I felt it fast forwarded to future days and you'd all of a sudden be three years later with major life differences and confused. Otherwise I was happy with in choosing this book to listen too. It was nice to listen to a story without vulgar language and sex scenes.

Easy, light summer read
