About this listen

It's happened once before, and it will happen again.

In the year 2030 the Maunder Minimum, a period of solar inactivity, will cause a mini-ice age like it did between the years 1645 and 1710. When it does, Bishop will have to save her not only from the effects of severe weather but also from man himself.

Maeve Tildon and her son Ben live alone in the rural town of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Since her husband died in the war, she's barely kept her head above water, and when the first freeze strikes in the fall, she's completely unprepared for what lies ahead. Only a war-torn man, one who prefers the solitude of the Kootenai National Forest, can rescue her and her son.

From the best-selling author of the Graham's Resolution series, Shaw brings you Surrender the Sun.

Great story line, wonderful characters, that one can easily relate too. A refreshing twist on the usual post apocalyptic type books, which I love. Of course, Kevin Pierce's narration is awesome as always! I'm really looking fwd to book 2.

Great book!

I can't wait to see how this series will play out. I find it very interesting that it is the weather (extreme cold) not an EMP that brings about the end of "normal society". Kevin has done another wonderful job narrating. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

Awesome beginning to the series

As an avid reader of everything post apocalyptic, I thoroughly enjoyed this new take on a possible SHTF scenario. The writers ability to tell the story while also informing the reader (or listener) on some of the science of the mini ice age know as the Maunder Minimum. Kevin Pierce does an amazing job as usual narrating this book, and he really brings to life the characters within. I will be waiting patiently for the next book in the series.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Great twist on the typical disaster scenarios

story was A New Perspective on an apocalyptic event. The characters were interesting but after a while I got kind of tired of the plot.

Not what I expected

Kevin is always a choice narrator for these types of stories.
This time the world is in turmoil because of an ice storm that will become the next Ice Age.
Maeve, a single mom whose husband die in war and now lives in the mountains of Idaho with her young son. A war veteran and one of her husband’s best partner’s during the war overseas is living alone in the same area but he doesn’t like people because of the nightmares he still hasbut then again…
His name is Bishop and he is the town’s salvation and possibly Maeve’s.
This is a pretty good story with a moderate amount of action and I will be reading the other books in this series even though this one story had a satisfying conclusion.

A fight between good, evil and weather.

Good spin on the end of the world. only criticism is lack of detail in some areas of prepping and the actual disaster.

great book.

loved it

I really enjoyed this book. I seem to be drawn to prepper stories that wind up putting people into unimaginable situations. This book did that very well. I really enjoyed the character development and backstory for the main protagonist. His skill set used throughout the story was driven by his past and it was good to see how that came to be.

Most all of this story was completely plausible in my opinion. I guess the main issue I have is the severity and speed of the weather change. I'm not sure that's quite as plausible, but it makes the unpreparedness of the characters that much more intense.

The narration was excellent all the way around. This is the second Kevin Pierce narration I've listened to and it was done just as well as the first.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Great characters, nicely executed story!

This story chronicles the proposed return of The Maunder Minimum. [“The Maunder Minimum, also known as the "prolonged sunspot minimum", is the name used for the period starting in about 1645 and continuing to about 1715 when sunspots became exceedingly rare, as noted by solar observers of the time. The Maunder Minimum roughly coincided with the middle part of the Little Ice Age, during which Europe and North America experienced colder than average temperatures.” From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia] Widow Maeve Tilton and her son Ben are trapped in the decreasing temperature and increasing snow storm without preparation. The forest hermit Bishop had promised Maeve’s late husband that he would watch out for Maeve and Ben should he not return home. One should be careful what one wishes for! Bishop brought Maeve food and firewood, installed a deadbolt on the rear door, and changed-out snow tires on her vehicle. Looters in town were not wasting any time getting their sorry act in high gear. Bishop had his hands full protecting his charges from these misfits as well. This is a wonderful story unique in its plot, together with well-developed characters. Kevin Pierce as narrator is great. If you are familiar with my reviews you know that Kevin is one of my favorite narrators. His voice is pleasant and smooth; timing and sentiments blend well together for an enjoyable experience. The Maunder Minimum

What did you love best about Surrender the Sun?

The author took true science and used it in the story to help in the destruction of the world. The maunder minimum cause a second mini ice and all the civil unrest that goes with in in the town the story is set in, in Idaho.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Surrender the Sun?

My favorite moment of the story was Bishop rescuing the little girl in the burning home. He knows its a bad idea and he is going to get really hurt but he can't see another child die.

What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kevin Pierce has the best voice in the business for this genre. He brings stories and characters to life better than anyone else out there. I have given other books and series a chance just because he was the narrator and I was not disappointed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes wanted to listen to the story all in one sitting but I parceled out the story to make it last to enjoy it until the author has the sequel ready
