Publisher's summary

Earth is a frozen wasteland...the victim of a war we hadn't realized we were fighting.

Opportunities there are few and far between...that is, unless you're willing to put on a uniform. For ace-pilot Deborah Allen Riker (aka “Admiral Dare”), life had never been easy. She's defended Earth against countless enemies, both alien and human alike.

Now she's retired. Committed to a life of solitude and studying the aliens she spent a lifetime fighting...until she finds herself dragged into a new conflict. A conflict she never saw coming.

One of the great Arks built to carry the last vestiges of humanity into the deepest reaches of space goes missing. And she's just the gal to find it.

Don't miss the start of a military sci-fi series from Amazon best seller Andrew Beery. It's perfect for fans of Rick Partlow, Christopher G. Nuttall, and Mark Wayne McGinnis.

Well Written Sci-Fi Story/Wold Building

I read this one twice … and yes it was good enough to do that. The narration was decent, but not great. Female voices in particular were an obvious struggle so I would rate the performance just above Alexa. Fortunately the story itself was good enough to carry it (which is not typical in my experience) and the whole is good enough to grab the next two books in the series (that and the mild cliffhanger ending).

The primary protagonist is a tough as nails xeno-archaeologist cut in the image of an Indiana Jones motif with all the expected brass and snark, making this a fun adventure. Said hero is recruited to find a missing “survey ship” aka colony ship. The bad guys are fairy standard evil empire corporations (standard trope). There is a bit of intrigue and espionage, but the focus tilts more toward military sci-fi where the tech details are pretty solid (a pleasant surprise after becoming used to BFM masquerading as science). To make it work, the author needs to engage in info-dumps … however, these are very short and seamlessly working into the narrative at decision points in enough humor to make these appear as an important part of the entertainment and world building. Regardless, the author has obvious done the homework and I was extremely happy with the result; however, the detail might not work as well for everybody.

Over all ... the standard tropes are so well executed that you barely notice that you have heard them before. It's just fun entertainment that is worth the investment.

Great start to new sci-fi series.

Survey Ship is a great start to a new Sci-fi series. It features a wild story with fast paced action and a very cool female lead. Deb Riker (or ‘Admiral Dare’ as she hates to be known) is a xeno archeologists (think space Indiana Jones, lol) and she gets sucked into the adventure of a lifetime. As I said, there is plenty of action, some straight up humor as well as more than a little subtle humor as well, usually in the form of various pop culture references. While I have no complaints with Dave Cruse’s narration, he does a really good job, I will say I found him to be kind of an odd choice given the main character is a woman and the story is told from her point of view. That being said, I enjoyed the book quite a bit and look forward to seeing what happens in the next one.

Great Start To A Series

This books was very entertaining and left me wanting to get the rest of the series. It was well narrated and easy to listen too. I got through this book faster than my normal time as I could not wait to see what happened next. The only drawback in the entire book was the "Star Trek" Tribute names got a little overboard. This was not enough of a downside to really hurt the book.

This one is a must !!!

First book of Exodus Earth trilogy hocked me within the first chapter !
Survey Ship got it all, a full on science fiction.
Andrew Beery imagination truly amazed me, it’s like a mix of old Indiana Jones with ancient alien race and future black holes planets space ships with AI’s and enjoyable, it’s just crazy fast running story which is hard to put down for brakes or sleep.
Dave Cruse excellent narration with different voices for each character was a perfect choice for this series without a doubt !

I absolutely recommend
this trilogy for all !!!

Oded Ostfeld.

Who dosnt want a snarky teenage A.I?

If you're looking for a light, fun story to read over a long weekend, grab Survey Ship.

Survey Ship is a classic, fast paced Sci Fi adventure story. There isn't a ton of character development, but that isn't really the point of stories like this. It's a straightforward, fun adventure in the stars. The characters move from one crisis to another, and overcome them by the skin of their teeth. Exposition can be a little clunky and the main character focuses a lot of cultural touchstones that we're familiar with, but it's still a good time, and worth a read.

Interesting Space Adventure

I enjoyed this first book in the trilogy. A lot of setup and back story of course but a good story none the less. Well written and well read. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Space Adventure!

I have enjoyed Andrew Beery's imaginative stories for several years and Survey Ship is no exception. This book lays the foundation for the series with impressive world-building, character introduction and back story. There is abundant action and adventure, intrigue and espionage. I also appreciated the near absence of profanity and gratuitous physical intimacy. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
