About this listen

The complete 6-book series as one box set. Over 47 hours of enthralling sci-fi action.

- A brutal alien enemy. A black-ops taskforce, operating outside the rules of war -

The Sa’Nerra were close to defeat, then everything changed. Armed with a neural weapon, the brutal alien warriors turned Fleet crew against their own. Entire warships went rogue. Suspicion and fear ran riot. Surrender seemed like the only option.

But Lucas Sterling knows that in the fight against the Sa’Nerra there is only victory or death.

As a black-ops Omega Captain, Sterling was selected for his cold-hearted ability to do whatever it takes to win, no matter the personal cost. He knows that the only way to beat the Sa’Nerra is to fight like they do—without emotion, without boundaries and without mercy.

Unburdened by the rules of war, the Omega Taskforce are humanity’s only hope against a seemingly unconquerable foe.The fate of humanity rests in the hands of Captain Sterling and the Omega officers of the warship Invictus. But when anyone could be the enemy, who can Sterling really trust?

Omega Taskforce is a fast-paced space opera action-adventure series that grips you from the first word and never lets go. If you enjoy ruthless alien warriors, running gun battles, devastating space combat, mystery, high-stakes action and epic twists, you’ll love it. Start listening today!

narration gets better & worth persevering

in the first couple of books I didn't like one of the voices used, it made it difficult to concentrate on the story (I needed to rewind several times)... but midway I began to not notice THAT voice... either it improved or I got used to it, probably BOTH... definitely WORTH THE CREDIT...

Its a bit of a shlog through the swamp.

I saw it offered on Prime membership and thought it would be a good buy for the hours. Its like those British dramas from the 80s, where you started somewhere in the middle, and ended about three paragraphs short. although I can't say for shure as I couldn't force myself to finish it.

Gets even better. Narrating voice unfortunate.

A great bargain for the whole series; already bought next series—-don’t read blurbs on it; has a much better narrating voice. Here, the reader is extremely talented & character voices are great. Very brutal Military SF; easy to invest in the main characters.

Very intense week of listening

I really enjoyed this series of 6 books. Book one had me wondering at first if I would like it. Mainly due to the breathy narration. However, about halfway through book one I settled in and realized how Steve Barns’s voice acting really separated the characters, and made their personalities very real. The books kept my interest all the way through. There are many battles in space, and in the ground. Every one of them are pretty brutal, and written so well that I became immersed and my heart was pumping at times. Other people have written about the story itself, but I would also add that the writing was done so well that it conveyed many emotions as well.

Explosive, action-filled, military sci-fi

Humanity expanded into the universe and bumped into a hive species that has no concept of surrender or negotiation - and to make matters worse, they are smart. These aren't mindless completely alien bugs looking for protein like in Weber & White's The Shiva Option. These aliens are a manipulative, conniving enemy turning some of humanity's greatest strengths into liabilities. The team fighting them? A ship full of the coldest, most ruthless, morally ambiguous soldiers a certain secret department could dredge up. They'll do what needs to be done, no matter the cost, but is it enough? and is it worth it?

Explosive, action-filled, military sci-fi space opera. Everything from space battles to hand-to-hand combat. This ship is crewed with mostly the kind of people Frank Castle would fit in well with. They seem like good people, but kinda scary and you don't want to be on their bad side - especially since some of them are unnerved by their companions. Humor was well used in this book too - kept things moving and from getting too dark. The political intrigue was wrapped into the story in an interesting way too - the repercussions of attacks on various human outposts play a roll in the conflict as well adding depth.

The character development in this series is top notch - as the series progresses cracks are showing, it seems the crew might be human after all. Well, maybe not the doctor - he's still creepy. Loved the addition of the latest 4 legged crew member, and the ongoing jokes about the meal packs. Hey, sometimes that is what matters. The complexity con the conflict at home, with the aliens, with outposts - this is a great, rich, fully nuanced read, not some singularly focused war.

Just when you think you have it figured out, the storyline takes another crazy twist, or throws in an unexpected crew member. The ending will not disappoint! Nothing less than the fate of two species is on the line. This is is a storyline that builds and I have to admit the second time through was even better than the first as I recognized just how much Ogden has put in play and set up from very early on in the series. This Omega Captain and his crew might be cold, but there is still a spark of humanity within them.

With regards to the audio version, Steve Barnes does an excellent job drawing you into the story. I wasn't sure about the voice he used for the narrator at first, but it grew on me. Character voices were spot on. This is a great one for listening to while doing other tasks as he has that kind of voice that keeps you interested but doesn't demand attention if you know what I mean. A nice calm voice despite all chaos and violence in the story. Which I suppose is fitting of an Omega narrator ;) This is an honest and voluntary review of an ARC

Excellent

Didn’t want it to end! I wish it would be continued, because I’d like to hear more about the characters.
