About this listen

Lydia Millet's chilling new novel is the first-person account of a young mother, Anna, escaping her cold and unfaithful husband, a businessman who's just launched his first campaign for political office.

When Ned chases Anna and their six-year-old daughter from Alaska to Maine, the two go into hiding in a run-down motel on the coast. As his pursuit of Anna and their child moves from threatening to criminal, Ned begins to alter his wife's world in ways she never could have imagined.

This double-edged and satisfying story features a strong female protagonist, a thrilling plot, and a creeping sense of the apocalyptic. Sweet Lamb of Heaven builds to a shattering ending with profound implications for its characters.

Disappointing narration and hard to follow

This book was hard to follow, as I wasn't expecting the sci-fi element. Also due to the narrator's voice - so dull, not suited for an audiobook. I really think the lack of inflection made it harder to follow as well as simply boring at times. One part involved singing and it was cringe worthy. Overall, this book is not worth listening to.

Her most untipical work

I supposed it might be more than a runaway story. Indeed it is more. You'll find a mind-numbing and oh so confusing exorcist thriller part at the end.
However not a bad novel. The mother-daughter relationship is sensitively described and 5/6 of the audiobook is more than enjoyable. The deep humorlessness is depressing, but all in all it is a sad story.

It is very hard to grow on the author's flat voice. I gave her a 2 because she even sung. Positive that Lydia usually isn't keen on reading her books herself.

Loved it.. curious about it

A novel with lots of facts about the natural world woven in. Ending lent itself to a sequel. Such an intelligent writer that I kept reading even though I don’t enjoy the supernatural in the literature I typically read.

Best book in a long time

Wow, this was such an interesting and entertaining novel. It has a rich and unique storyline. It is hard to describe what makes it so good. The author is masterful. This is by far the best book I have listened to in my recent memory.
