About this listen

Rosie Hopkins thinks leaving her busy London life, and her boyfriend Gerard, to sort out her elderly Aunt Lilian's sweetshop in a small country village is going to be dull. Boy, is she wrong.

Rosie's life is...comfortable. And even though she might like to pursue a more rewarding career, and Gerard doesn't seem to have any plans to propose, Rosie's not complaining. Things could be worse. Right?

Lilian Hopkins has spent her life running Lipton's sweetshop, through wartime and family feuds. When her great-niece Rosie arrives to help her with the shop, Lilian struggles with the idea that it might finally be time to settle up, and wrestles with the secret history hidden behind the jars of beautifully colored sweets.

But as Rosie gets Lilian back on her feet, breathes a new life into the candy shop, and gets to know the mysterious and solitary Stephen - whose family seems to own the entire town - she starts to think that settling for what's comfortable might not be so great after all.

This book gave ma all the feels. I laughed out loud, felt frustrated at the characters and cried. Everything was all wrapped up in the end. Great writing and storytelling from the narrator.

Happy story. Entertaining and fun to listen to. The “male” voices could be improved a little.

Jenny Colgan is a new favorite of mine when I want a non spicy read or something to break up my usual lineup of books. She always brings a smile to my face with her story telling.

I have read several of Ms. Colgan’s books. They are entertaining and have very interesting characters. Definitely a “feel good” read. They are my reward for walking the dog in the woods every morning, a true guilty pleasure.

Lovely story weaver

I’d convinced myself to swear off Jenny Colgan’s books because I absolutely detest the use of profanity in a good story. In my opinion, unnecessary profanity just cheapens the story and it’s use seems to be a.)to try to mask a bad storyteller or b.)to attract a certain reader who requires such to keep their attention.
Jenny Colgan’s stories are much too good to resort to such tactics and Sweetshop of Dreams is no exception. Fortunately, it seemed to contain perhaps a bit fewer profane words than some of her others, which I must say was appreciated.
Sweetshop of Dreams is a delight. Tears, as always instigated by her works, are to be expected, but these were happy tears in the end!
Soooo...Summer at the Little Beach Street Bakery is my next...& I hope I don’t have to bleep out (in my head) more than I did for The Little Beach Street Bakery!
So engaging and entertaining with characters whose personalities are each like someone I know. I love your writing, Jenny! Please keep them coming!
Thank you for sharing your talent AND for Beverly Crick’s amazing narration (I like to listen and follow along in print.)

She’s done it again!

Such a touching story. The growing love between Rosey who came to care for her elderly Aunt Lilly, and the realization that her life in London could not hold a candle to the relationships and being a contributing member in her Aunt's small town.

The Best!
