About this listen

Celebrated actress Scarlett Thomas never wanted fame - that was her parents' dream. Now she's ready to make big changes, but she never could have imagined how big those changes would turn out to be. Returning to the medieval Dunskirk Castle, where she filmed the Puppet War trilogy, she encounters an old Scotsman named Donell who directs her to an ancient claymore that sends her back in time to 16th-century Scotland.

Scottish border lord James Hepburn, laird of Achenmeade, is a man at loose ends. The illegitimate son of the old king's illegitimate daughter, he has no place in his father's home and no freedom to forge a future of his own. When war with England looms once more on Scotland's horizon, James must not only fight for his country but also try to battle his growing attraction to a slender, sassy lass who tempts him to defy his sire and his king.

As the days pass, bringing them closer to war and to each other, Scarlett and James discover that their differences are not so profound as their similarities. But when they are confronted with the opportunity to live their lives freely, as they choose, will they seize their chance before the Battle of Flodden separates them forever?

time travel

I enjoy the time travel books. I look for new ones all the time. Ferguson is a good male narrator but he really has a hard time with female voices. I can not get into the female parts. He gives them a different attitude then I feel they should have. Other than that good book. I may just have to read this one.

I had a hard time getting though

this program through this book due to the gentleman reading it portrayal of a female. I have never had one of my books sound so bad his southern accent was horrid I am from Tennessee and we do not sound like that. And his female voice did not sound like a female. If it had not been for this this book would have been awesome so I would suggest reading this one yourself. the rest of them unbelievable good but this one I would read myself enjoy

HATE THAT BOOK ENDS

Loved it!! James and Scarlett's relationship really took off. I love the banter between the two of them. and the love scenes, hot and beautiful. I am a big fan of book series. Angeline really put some thought into how she wanted each storyline to take place. Starting next book now.

Taken, audio version

I loved this story and enjoyed Ms. Fortin's writing as well as Mr. Ferguson's narration. He always does an excellent job, and this one was no different. True, his Southern accent was truly southern, but people who are not born and raised in the south, have a stereotype they believe is the true Southern accent. Actually, it depends on which part of the south you're from as to how it should accurately sound. Charleston, Savannah, Atlanta, all have several different variations, depending on location, social standing, and upbringing. Even in "Gone with The Wind", Vivien Leigh was British, not southern. Though it was irritating to many true southerners, she did as well a job as any probably would have and her "look" was right. I think anyone who complains about Mr. Ferguson's rendition, should stop complaining. It is one of the most difficult patterns of speech to replicate and I thought he did as good a job as anyone would have.. To have such a variety of voices and brogues/accents to perform, I thought he did admirably! I love Ms. Fortins plot, depth of characters, and historical accuracy/knowledge of the history. Well researched and planned out. The entire series has been enjoyable to me, audio as well as the ebook, but then I read, or listen, for the content of the story. As a past teacher, I don't allow myself to miss out on the actual story by looking for or dwelling on things I may think should have been done differently. I'm not a writer or narrator so commend those who are!

The narrators female voice is just off putting. Not enough plot and character development. 😓

Surprisingly Good!

To be completely honest, romantic novels are not high on my reading list. However, after reading several dark stories, I was looking for a lighthearted, fanciful story to occupy my mind while spring cleaning. A friend loves time travel romance, so I thought I'd give it a try. My first selection was dreadful. The "modern" woman didn't have a brain in her head and I couldn't get beyond the third chapter. Not expecting this leading lady to be much better, I was pleasantly surprised at her ability to defend herself, yet do her best to fit into the Medieval environment she found herself in. I found myself laughing as she tried to cover slips of the tongue and explain why she was so well educated. The male lead didn't go overboard being the dark brooding type and there are no contrived"misunderstandings" that drive them apart; just two lonely people from different worlds trying to understand one another. While the book did not turn me into a romance novel fangirl, it did provide the lighthearted fun distraction I was seeking.

Another interesting time travel story

I enjoyed the story of a young actress that is working at a castle in Scotland who unexpectedly finds herself in that same castle in the 1500's. She is "taken" by a Laird and is challenged to explain where she came from.

It was ok

What I found annoying is Fortin's books so far is, the women from the future use all the language from their time as if the people in the past would understand them. It makes them look stupid and naive. What happened at end of the book with Donald and needing help from a time traveler? As for a A. Ferguson, he is my favorite narrator by far, personally I think there is nothing wrong with his female voices. Another thing i love about his narration is that he does not dramatize the non dialog pars of the book. His voice is soothing and relaxing. this is just my preference. I find many male narrates can not do female voices and female narrators can not do male voices even more so. Potter is very good narrator she does a very good deep masculine voice that not many can pull off.

Liked the story.

I liked the story. The narrator is not horrible and I still listen to the book but I think a better job could have been done with the female characters. Also, the main Characters needed better sounding voice.

Read the books that are male narrated

It's hard to listen a male narrator do the female voices. My personal preference is a female narrator, but decided to give it a try anyway. The narrator is good, but just couldn't do the female voices in a way that was pleasing to me. I wish I had read the two books that were narrated by a male and saved my money. The other books in the series are narrated by a female who does pretty decent male voices.
