About this listen

A USA Today Best Book of 2021!

"Bromley does a deft job at keeping the twists and turns of this reunion realistic and utterly romantic.” (USA Today)

Inspiration can come from the most unlikely - and inconvenient - sources.

Kara Sullivan’s life is full of love - albeit fictional. As a best-selling romance novelist and influential bookstagrammer, she’s fine with getting her happily-ever-after fix between the covers of a book.

But right now? Not only is Kara’s best friend getting married next week - which means big wedding stress - but the deadline for her next novel is looming, and she hasn’t written a single word. The last thing she needs is for her infuriating first love, Ryan Thompson, to suddenly appear in the wedding party. But Ryan’s unexpected arrival sparks a creative awakening in Kara that inspires the steamy historical romance she desperately needs to deliver.

With her wedding duties intensifying, her deadline getting closer by the second and her bills not paying themselves, Kara knows there’s only one way for her to finish her book and to give her characters the ever-after they deserve. But can she embrace the unlikely, ruggedly handsome muse - who pushes every one of her buttons - to save the wedding, her career and, just maybe, write her own happy ending?

"A fun and sexy romp, with chemistry that gave me all the feels!" (Jennifer Probst, New York Times best-selling author of Our Italian Summer)

"Add this book to your TBR list immediately!" (Sarah Smith, author of Faker)

Fun banter

I actually read the book, and have kept it for my favorites shelf. I added the audible to listen as background for menial activities.
I have since picked up her other 2 books and feel the same about both of them.

Fun RomCom

I enjoyed the book a lot. While I liked the narration overall, the accent for Ryan was not great in my opinion. But it was a quick “read” that I didn’t want to stop listening to once I got going.

Ok overall

Some of the book drug in for me. I had a hard time going between the book and what the character was writing in the book. Felt disconnected. Cast of characters felt random. Parts of the book I liked. Fell short of full potential.

Great rom-com...

Talk Bookish To Me was a great rom-com that would make an outstanding summer read. It is PG and keeps you interested. Just when you think it’s about to be predictable it doesn’t. I look forward to reading what Kate Bromley writes next.

It was fine.

It was a pleasant way to occupy my mind while cleaning, walking the dog, etc. I think I’m learning that rom coms are not really my preferred genre so I guess take that for what it’s worth.

Boring and predictable

Bummed I used a credit for this book. It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either.

Hell NO !!

UGHHH!!! that was simply awful, Ryan is one of the worst MC's I stumbled upon for a while, damn !!
The story is a second chance romance about Kara and Ryan, they met in college and fell in love but they couldn't handle the long distance relationship after graduation so they broke up, and it wasn't peaceful, it was ugly as hell .. fast forward ten years later both of these suckers meet a wedding party and they pretend that they hate each other while in reality all they want is resume where they left off .. Kara convinces herself that she needs Ryan to complete her book, while Ryan is being his jerk self with no apparent reason until ...
what comes after the (until) is what pissed me off the most, it's no secret that I really don't like second chance romances but I was willing to give the book a chance and keep my mind open .. but that ending made me so mad because this is the text book definition of a toxic relationship, who would take this asshole after what he did ? the jerk .. so glad it's over

Awful waste of one credit.

Annoying female lead. Awful male lead. Sophomoric overall. Cheaters gonna cheat. Why any woman expects any different is beyond me.

Not as good as I had hoped

The story and plot just didn’t hit the mark. The character of Ryan was completely unlikable throughout the entire story. I was actually rooting for the other guy she meets later on in the story.

The narration of Kara was great, but the male voice was poor. I’m not sure if she got the accent from watching House of Cards, but I feel that contributed to part of my dislike of Ryan.

Finally, I still don’t understand why she took him back after what he’s done. I suppose I’m getting tired of the arrogant men in books getting away with bad behavior and the women in the end saying it’s ok because they’re in love. Really? I’m all for forgiveness but it has to be deserved.
