About this listen

Is living the life you’ve wished for really a dream come true?

Lucy Young is twenty-six and tired. Tired of fetching coffees for senior TV producers, sick of going on disastrous dates, and done with living in a damp flat with roommates who never buy toilet paper. After another disappointing date, Lucy stumbles upon a wishing machine. Pushing a coin into the slot, Lucy closes her eyes and wishes with all her might: Please, let me skip to the good part of my life.

When she wakes the next morning to a handsome man, a ring on her finger, a high-powered job, and two storybook-perfect children, Lucy can’t believe this is real—especially when she looks in the mirror, and staring back is her own forty-something face. Has she really skipped ahead like she’s always wanted, or has she simply forgotten a huge chunk of her life? As Lucy begins to embrace new relationships and the perks of maturity, she’ll have to ask herself: Can she go back to her previous life, and if so, can she stand to leave the good part behind?

"Filled with charming moments, lovable characters, and a bit of magic . . . This saga has it all." —Woman's World

"Cousens is a master at building emotional impact without becoming maudlin or sentimental. . . . Cousens acknowledges her book's debt to classic films like 13 Going on 30 and Big, and it captures some that nostalgia while also feeling fresh and relevant." —Book Reporter

Fun if you like the movie 50 first dates

Sweet and fun. Easy listen! Enjoyed it, different than what I normally read. A little language and sex but overall clean

Beautiful and Creative

One of the most thoughtful books I have read this year. Wonderful characters that will stay in my mind for a long time. Excellent narration as well.

Wanted a different ending

Good story. I don't want to spoil the end, but I thought the author failed to make a bolder decision.

Captivating

I like Tara kept me engaged the whole time, and I wanted to know how it ended. Each character I could picture vividly in my mind.

Beautiful story!

Thoughtful, real and plenty of humor. This story reminds us that every part of life should be embraced and learned from.

Not my favorite Sophie Cousens book

Spoiler alert. My review is colored by the fact that I am not a fan of time travel stories. The story was engaging and I liked the characters and the narrator. In addition to the characters and storytelling, what kept me going in the book was the question: is this a case of amnesia or is it time travel? I was disappointed in the ending. It was a generally happy ending but not really believable.
