About this listen

Intrigued by the scandal of London’s Lost Lords, intrepid Miss Faye Poplar resolves to untangle the mystery of those complicit in the disappearance of the young lords and ladies - even if it leads her to the steps of the most powerful peers. But she’ll require the help only one man can provide...the ruthless Beast of Newgate.

Caught up in his own crimes, Tynan Wylie, the Beast of Newgate, finds himself behind bars of the same prison he once ran. When he’s freed with Faye’s help, he has no intention of repaying her debt. His only focus is reclaiming his place of power, overseeing the most ruthless criminals in London.

Except, Faye didn’t go to the trouble of freeing Tynan only to face his rejection, and it isn't long before Tynan understands how tenacious and charming the young miss can be. When Faye’s research into the disappearances open up an even darker danger, Tynan becomes the only person she can depend on. Despite vowing to never be weakened by love, Tynan finds himself falling for the one woman he can never have.

Out of the ordinary...great story

In this series, Christi Caldwell takes us out of the ballrooms of the Ton to the underword and rookeries. I really like the way she spins an entertaining story that blends the nobility and the commoners. This book had a little bit of everything, romance, tasteful sex, conflict, mystery and a happy ending. A romance reader's dream. Thank you Christi and Timothy for taking me away to a fun place. This book is certainly a keeper and a repeater.

Edits Needed

Overall it was a cute story. However, it was in dire need of editing due to contradictions throughout. It just didn’t have the flow of a typical Christi Caldwell book. Timothy Campbell was superb as usual.

Great book. it actually had a story.

Great characters and original plot. It grabbed my attention and kept me listening. I am looking for more work from this author in the future.

So much better than I anticipated

Loved it...every single word. I avoided this one continuously because I thought I wouldn't be able to like the H. Big mistake. Wish I would have purchased it sooner as it is probably my favorite book of the year so far. I will definitely listen again. And Tim Campbell is really at his best with these St. Giles/lived rough H's. I could listen to him spouting gibberish with Tynan's voice. (somewhat similar to what he used with Ryder and Niall, yet different. And Niall was my favorite up until this point.) Worth a credit IMHO.

Sweet characters.

The author beautifully developed these characters, although it helps to have read previous books, and I found myself cheering the “Hollywood ending.” The story built with pending excitement but ultimately ended abruptly without resolving some of the dangerous conflicts. It was as if the publisher demanded the book be done ready or not.

painfully bad

The book was painfully difficult to finish. For large sections I had to turn the speed up to just make it go faster. The heroine is an idiot. When the hero tries to keep her stupidity from getting her into trouble, she gets obnoxiously huffy. The back story could be interesting but is wasted with nothing actually happening. It is hours of pissing and moaning woe is me and my stained past on both sides with no decipherable reason why the characters decide they are in love. Tim Campbell is as always amazing but even he can't save this flaming turd.
