About this listen

Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar is number five in the Tarzan series. In this standalone novel, Tarzan, Lord Greystoke, finds himself financially embarassed. He decides to return to the treasure city of Opar to replenish his wealth. Toss in a renegade Belgian army officer, a money-mad kidnapping Arab fiend, some apes, and Tarzan's faithful Waziri - and a severe blow to Tarzan's head causing amnesia. You have the elements for a "Jewels, jewels - who's got the jewels?" kind of plot full of reverses and surprises. Pretty pebbles or precious jewels? Burroughs will keep you guessing!

Tarzan is a forever hero

This a great book, but the first three were a little better. My main question is where was Tarzan's son, Jack? I don't know if I missed hearing his status or if it was not mentioned at all. He definitely played no role in this book and he is one of my favorite characters.

The Tarzan series captured my imagination when I read the books as a pre-teen. Now, sixty years later I still find the books fascinating. I become immersed in the jungle lore and the adventures of Tarzan, Jane and Jack. It is a particular treat to have the books read to me by David Stifel. He has narrated the first four books and I find him to be very talented. He does not narrate books five and six, but I love the story so much that I will continue with the series with narrator Patric Lawlor in Tarzan the Untamed. I listened to all the samples and he seemed to be good also.

Another one of the great works of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Wonderful narrator. I really enjoyed listening to it.
