About this listen

Firefly meets Dune in a breakneck race to escape across an alien moon thriving with aliens and criminals.

Ten Low is an ex-army medic, one of many convicts eking out a living at the universe’s edge. She’s desperate to escape her memories of the interstellar war, and the crimes she committed, but trouble seems to follow wherever she goes. One night, attempting to atone for her sins, she pulls a teenage girl - the sole survivor - from the wreck of a spaceship. But Gabriella Ortiz is no ordinary girl. The result of a military genetics program, she is a decorated army general, from the opposing side of the war to Ten. Worse, Ten realizes the crash was an assassination attempt, and that someone wants the Ortiz dead....

The pair bury their hatreds and strike an uneasy deal to smuggle the general off-world. Their road won’t be easy: They must cross the moon’s lawless wastes, facing military hit-squads, bandits, and the one-eyed leader of an all-female road-gang, in a frantic race to get the general to safety. But something else waits in the darkness at the universe’s edge. Something that threatens to reveal Ten’s worst nightmare: the truth of who she really is and what she is running from.

Damn good story

Mad Max, the Wild West, and space travel all mashed together into a damn good story. I’d thoroughly recommend this book for you to enjoy.

Best audible plus sci-fi book I have heard

It goes away at the end of the year for now. It is one of the best audible plus books I have listen too. Wild West for the space frontier is a great description.

Sci-fi

A strange, religious science fiction story. A good reading that would have been better with multiple actors.

Outstanding story and production

Think Firefly, but much darker, deeper, and richer. A fantasy western with mythic overtones. Fabulous tale in every sense of the word, and the narration really enhanced the mood of the story. I hope we hear more from Ten Lo, Gabi, Falco—and the mysterious seekers—soon.

Engrossing

Had me from the start and didn’t let go.
The kind of epic sci-fi story that usually centers around a lead male character. I love the choices the author made in assembling this cast of characters.

Nicol Zanzarella was superb in her narration.
An excellent listen.

Immediately pulls you in

Great story, loved the characters! Prior to this I had been on a fantasy book binge (a la ACOTAR) of “strong” female MCs all of whom center men, this was such a breath of fresh air. I want to know so much more about Ten & the others. I loved it start to finish.

weird and worthwhile

Yes, it's a western LGBT+ sci-fi, metaphysical, multiple dimensional story perfect for the current times. What would a national divorce look like in the eyes of some politicians and fascists? Read on to find out.

Definitely like Firefly and Dune!

I love Firefly and Dune, so I was intrigued. That was a perfect description! The story moves well and the characters are all very real. One thing I loved was the authors use of pronouns. Some people were they/them, some were she/her or he/him and there were same-sex couples. It was all so natural and organic - as it should be in real life! Very well done!

Dark, but complex

Great world building. Interesting characters, but dark and embedded with hopelessness. It is definitely worth a listen

a mess

I don't usually write bad reviews but I'm sick of multiverse nonsense. what the hell was the point of this book? I listen to one scifi or fantasy book a month. last time I take a suggestion from TikTok.
