About this listen

The world’s smallest dragon and a washed-up actress team up to strike a blow for humanity in this brand-new adventure by the author of the Andrea Vernon and Orlando People series.

Birdie Binkowitz is just a little bitter. As a young actress, she was the toast of Hollywood, definitely destined for greatness. Then the dragons had to rise up from their thousand-year slumber, take over Earth and ruin everything. Twenty years later, Birdie is living her worst life in her hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, working at her father's Seed and Feed (and Bagels).

Then, a mysterious dragon appears in front of the store seeking her help. He’s got a bone to pick with his fellow dragons–and he wants to hit them where it hurts.

Birdie and Jim the Dragon will need to put together a team with a fighter, a mage, a thief, and a giant to pull off a daring heist. If they succeed, they might change the world.

Or at least get Birdie an agent.

About the Creator - Alexander C. Kane

About the Creator

Alexander C. Kane’s brand of science fiction is strange, witty, and funny, whether it’s the superheroes-meet-workplace world of the "Andrea Vernon" series or the telekinetically-tinged mystery of the "Orlando People" series. At the heart of all his stories are relatable characters who meet everyday issues head on, and just want to be their best. Alex lives in New York with his wife and children, who possess the supernatural ability to cope with his overactive imagination.

It is a lot harder to write comedy than drama, but Alexander Secane has a deft touch and hits it out of the ballpark each time. I particularly enjoyed the audio version with narrator Kristine Hvam deftly interpreting each character. I listened to this, and just a couple of days, then went back, and re-listened to his Orlando People series, and came back and listen to this one again. I can’t decide which sequel. I am anticipating the most: Orlando People, or Dragon Heist. I just know that whatever he writes is an automatic buy for me.

Roll Tide!

Kane has certainly found his voice. Andrea Vernon, Orlando People, and now Dragon Heist share a lot of the same DNA: high fantasy, middle class, low brow. All of his books are a reliable 4.5 stars with solid humor throughout.

I'd never heard of this narrator Khristine Hvam before but I'll have to keep a look out for her. She was amazing!

Another fun "The Tick"-esque story from Kane

My husband and I are huge fans of the author and we devoured this latest book together on a road trip. Fast paced and fun with witty banter and a great cast of characters. The narrator nailed it too. Thanks for another great one - keep them coming Kane!

So much fun!

I love every one of ACK’s books, and they all have such great narrators! He had me hooked with the first CUP book, and I haven’t been disappointed. This story had a nice ending but there’s still room to develop some story lines, so I hope he isn’t done with Jim the Dragon yet!

Another hilarious book I can listen to over and over!

I was suspicious at first but it turned out good.

Oh and the voice actress sings and she's good at it. And bagels.

Remarkably Good

This author is great, loved everything he's done previously. This is his first novel in fantasy, rather than sci fi, and it was the funniest yet.

A hilarious take on 'what if dragons wrre real in modern times' story.
