About this listen

In this stunning sequel to A Thousand Pieces of You by New York Times best-selling author Claudia Gray, Marguerite must race through various dimensions in a desperate attempt to save the boy she loves.

Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents' invention, to cross through to alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverse - even hurt the people she loves. She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked, and his consciousness is scattered across multiple dimensions.

The hunt for each splinter of Paul's soul sends Marguerite racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris, where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret.

Each dimension brings Marguerite one step closer to rescuing Paul. But with every trial she faces, she begins to question the one constant she's found between the worlds: their love for each other.

Even Better Than The First!

More of this review and others at: Whimsically Bookish

WHY has it taken me two years to read this?! Oh... yeah, right, I had a baby in 2015. I missed out on a ton of good books that year. But still! Just to do a simple recap, I reread (listened) to the first book in this series (you can find my original review here) last week and finished this book today and I was not disappointed!

First off, let me just say that Tavia Gilbert is the BEST narrator. Ever. You can argue with me, but you'd be wrong. If you listen to audiobooks like I do, you know that a narrator can either make or a break a book that you listen to. Well, Tavia Gilbert does such a phenomenal job in this series I completely forget that I'm listening to only one person (or that I'm actually listening to anyone at all- most of the time I'm too completely absorbed in the story). Basically, she deserves an Oscar.

Moving on... sometimes I'm afraid to read the second book in a series because I'm usually terrified that there is no way it will be as good as the first one. We all know it happens sometimes. But I'm happy to tell you that Ten Thousand Skies Above You held it's on and was just as amazing (if not more so) than the first novel! I don't know how Claudia Gray does it, but she has created this amazing world that should be too complicated for someone to understand (we're talking a gazillion dimensions here), but at no point was I ever confused as to what was going on or felt lost. She covers everything so smoothly it just keeps you turning the pages (or in my case never hitting stop on my phone).

The world(s) building is amazing, the characters unforgettable... literally everything I want and more in a book this series has and that's why it's made its way to my favorites shelf.

One of my new favorites! It's exciting, compelling, and so well read! The person reading does great accents and keeps up with the emotions characters as if she were them!

Even better than the first!

What did you like best about this story?

Somehow, Claudia Gray has managed to come up with even more amazing dimensions for the characters to explore. Each "verse" is just as compelling as the last, and I love to explore each new world and new Marguerite.

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

I cannot rave enough about Tavia Gilbert. Her range of voices is excellent, and she is so fun to listen to!

Actions have consequences.

I enjoyed the second book more than the first. There was more world building and history about the origins of visiting dimensions.

It further explores the theme of destiny. It also explores the differences and similarities of the same person from the multiverse. The same being has the same unique genetic code but has the potential to be good or evil. Our Marguerite feels guilt about the lives she altered, but another Marguerite does it on purpose for fun. Conflict! Cliffhanger!

I also loved seeing the consequences of the lives Marguerite altered. I was wondering if we would go back to a previous dimension.

The plot and character development were well done. The pacing was good, as was the action and suspense.

Excellent Continuation

This was a great second novel in the series. While I enjoyed the first book in the series more, this is still a well-written and thrilling story. The narration also continues to be fantastic!
