Publisher's summary

A Necromunda novel.

When full-scale gang war erupts between Houses Goliath and Escher, Brielle of the Wild Hydras finds herself on the run and desperate for revenge....

Listen to it because....

Delve into the darkest reaches of the underhive in a tale of vengeance, ambition and gruesome deeds from Necromunda's underhive.

The story....

In the polluted, sprawling hive cities of Necromunda, life is short. From the decadent heights of the Spire to the murderous deeps of the underhive, those on the climb must be bold and brutal, or face a violent end.

When the barbarous Fettnir, Goliath overlord of the Chemfall Butchers, turns his attention to Escher territory, the result is nothing short of a massacre.

Brielle of the Wild Hydras escapes the slaughter and is cast into the deepest levels of the underhive.

Determined to avenge her family, Brielle vows that she will end those responsible, but to reach Fettnir and the bounty hunter who murdered her mother, she must first survive...and the darkness is full of horrors.

the grittiest of grim dark

This book was pure Necromunda, if you want dubious characters, gore, monsters and black humor then look no further. I honestly wish all Warhammer 40k novels had this much realism in characters

All the extremes of the underhive

Content warning
The underhive is a truely foil place, and I was left gaging several times from the vivid descriptions of survival and "work" in the underhive

Extraordinary Narrator. Truly Bleak Setting. Great

Emma Noakes really has no business giving the performance she gave to this title. It was emotional, complex, committed. No, I don't know her personally. Also, I will never hear the word "scrape" the same way again. It just leans into the setting unapologetically to give us the hero's journey anew.

Enjoyable experience

It was a pretty good story. Decent plot development and, descriptive action kept me listing long past my bed time.
Like other's noted the narrator is not the best at doing male voices, but it didn't break emerson for me.
Would like to hear more Necromanda books and would listen to the narrator again.

so much better than Kal Jericho

This book was great. I wanted a book that really tried to explore what it actually means to live on Necromunda. I started by purchasing the Kal Jericho book, sinner's bounty. THAT book was awful; it was boring and filled with an un-earned comedic tone. the audio version was made all the worse by using a narrator that was an incredibly bad fit for the job. I gave it many hours. it stayed terrible.

thankfully, terminal overkill was much more what I was hoping for. the characters are well written and believable, yet still appropriate for the strange setting and themes of the underhive.

the story is straightforward but compelling, and written in a way that really makes you feel the crushing weight of the setting and the arduous path to revenge the main character goes through, without the writing itself being a slog.

the narrator for the audio book is talented and well-suited to the task. highly recommended.

Amazing World Building

What makes this novel good is the attention to details of the underhive. How people live? What do they eat? The story is secondary in my opinion. it's decent, but not amazing.

Fodor's Guide to Necromunda

A great listen for those who already know, or are interested in, the Necromunda setting. If you aren't, how the hell did you even get here?

Excellent narration, and the main story, while entertaining, is really overshadowed by the richly detailed descriptions of the places and peoples of the underhive. Want to know what a fatberg fed by 10 billion people is like? Then this book is for you! Fits nicely with the new line of miniatures without being heavy handed and pays plenty of homage to oldhammer and the new apocrypha.

good story, great narrator

The story was pretty good. Started off strong, got a little slow in the middle. But the ending really did a good job to tie it all together. The best part of the book was the narrator though. She absolutely nailed it with her voices (her male voices were ehhh, but I don't knock her for it), the inflection and emotions were fantastic. definitely worth it just for the narrator imo.
