Publisher's summary

Real friendships, that rarity in our modern life of casual attitudes and frantic schedules, are on the brink of extinction. This stylish and elegant primer on making and maintaining authentic friendships throughout one's life is the antidote. Thoughtfully composed by Roger Horchow, legendary retail magnate, and Sally Horchow, Roger's daughter, this audiobook explains how making true connections greatly enhances one's experience of life.

At the core of The Art of Friendship are 70 simple but effective "rules of connecting". Recognizing that valuable friendships come in many forms, the authors offer practical and proven advice, including how to create rapport, even in a crowd; how to transform an acquaintance into a friend; when to e-mail, pick up the phone, send a note, or connect in person; how to maintain long-term friendships, and when it's time to quit. Whether the goal is to start a new relationship, cement a developing alliance, or reinvest in a long-standing friendship, The Art of Friendship will help to make the connection.

Not "unlistenable" at all

Actually, I disagree with "unlistenable's" assessment. The authors each read short vignettes to illustrate certain points, while the bulk of the book is read by the narrator, who does a professional job. While the authors are not professional narrators, they do just fine and it is enjoyable to feel their personality bring life to the vignettes.

Cute but not very original

Nice, basic ideas of how to make friends. Sometimes a little bit too basic, but it's not bad. Mr. Horchow leads a charmed life, finding best friends with just a smile, it seems, but for those of us who lack this magic touch, this book will have to do.

ehh. not great

Would you try another book from Roger Horchow and Sally Horchow and/or the narrators?

no, i would not.

Has The Art of Friendship turned you off from other books in this genre?

somewhat

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?

anyone without that accent. i hate to say it, but i found horchow's accent annoying & irritating.

What character would you cut from The Art of Friendship?

roger horchow

Unlistenable

Make sure you don't make the same mistake I did and buy this without listening to the entire sample. The authors narrate parts of this book and they are not very good. Actually, that's an understatement. This might be a fantastic book in print - or might be a great book with different narrators - but I wasn't able to get past the first hour before I threw in the towel.

Few other books hit this subject so well.

Everyone will learn something from this book, and the payoff will be well worth the investment.

A great handbook for enriching relationships

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because everyone needs to work on relationships and needs to be reminded or taught the basic skills involved.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Holter Graham has a very pleasant and trusting voice which makes listening enjoyable.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Art of Friendship?

I will be applying many of the 70 rules. I also bought the hard copy so I can take notes and refer back to the rules easily.

a good refresher

As you age gracefully through life, things change and so do people. This book is a good reminder on how to maintain or make new friendships.
