Story
Robin Moore became one of the first true embedded journalists by training with and fighting alongside the Green Berets in Vietnam. Though fictionalized, his work is an eye-opening exposé of the horrors of the Vietnam War and the basis for the hit John Wayne movie of the same title. Taut, fast-paced, and interspersed with unforgettable accounts of combat, Moore’s novel features an American major who goes "native" with Montagnard tribesmen, a courageous Vietnamese girl who poses as a rabid anti-American Communist to capture a murderous Viet Cong officer, and the unforgettable acts of courage of soldiers in the field.

In the Vietnam War, American "rough riders" drove trucks through hostile territory delivering supplies, equipment, ammunition, weapons, fuel, and reinforcements to troops fighting on the war's ever-shifting front lines. But, all too often, the convoys themselves became the front lines. Frank McAdams, a Marine Corps lieutenant, learned that the hard way during a tour of duty that began right after the 1968 Tet Offensive and the siege at Khe Sanh.

This trilogy about World War II, largely based on his own experiences as an army officer, is the crowning achievement of Evelyn Waugh's career. Its central character is Guy Crouchback, head of an ancient but decayed Catholic family, who at first discovers new purpose in the challenge to defend Christian values against Nazi barbarism, but then gradually finds the complexities and cruelties of war too much for him.

A battalion of Serbs has been senselessly murdered in Kosovo, and the Green Berets stand accused. Now, Major Sean Drummond, a top Army lawyer, is assigned to investigate this unspeakable atrocity. But of course, no one saw anything. Drummond gets consistently suspicious depositions from all of the Green Berets: Supposedly pursued by Serb soldiers, they left the engagement with wounded Serbs firing at them, and no one can explain the number of deaths.

As good as the rest of the series
One of the things I enjoy about the author’s series is how he changes the history of his characters from book to book. He doesn’t disappoint with this one either. That said, it is a really good ‘read’.

Great Author Great Series
The characters are easy to follow and to root for. The story is believable. As a timepiece it's filled with nuance (if that's the right word), but what always bothers me about most military books are how inaccurate they are about the details of military "life". They are like watching an actor who doesn't smoke fumble with a cigarette in a movie. This authors details are both accurate and make suspension of disbelief very easy. If the author is not a veteran then his research is PhD worthy

The narrator does a good job, however, mispronouncing military acronyms and terms is noticeable. I attribute this to not being familiar with the lingo.

Overall production excellent. U.S. ARMY veteran's critique: Narrator should probably learn U.S. military pro-words, terms & abbreviations (not always easy) before performance. Otherwise, excellent!
