About this listen
They were the chosen ones - and the ones who chose to be the best. Never before had the United States given so select a group of fighting men such punishing preparation. Now they were heading for their ultimate test of skill and nerve and sacrifice, in a war unlike any they or their country had ever fought before, in a land that most of America still knew nothing about - Vietnam...

June, 1941. Determined that the United States will be prepared for war, Franklin D. Roosevelt and "Wild Bill" Donovan orchestrate the most complex espionage organization in history, the Office of Strategic Services. Young and daring, the OSS assemble under a thin camouflage of diplomacy and then disperse throughout the world to conduct their operations. And no operation is more critical than the one being conducted by hotshot pilot Richard Canidy and his half-German friend Eric Fulmar: to secure the rare ore that will power a top-secret weapon....

As good as the rest of the series
One of the things I enjoy about the author’s series is how he changes the history of his characters from book to book. He doesn’t disappoint with this one either. That said, it is a really good ‘read’.

Great Author Great Series
The characters are easy to follow and to root for. The story is believable. As a timepiece it's filled with nuance (if that's the right word), but what always bothers me about most military books are how inaccurate they are about the details of military "life". They are like watching an actor who doesn't smoke fumble with a cigarette in a movie. This authors details are both accurate and make suspension of disbelief very easy. If the author is not a veteran then his research is PhD worthy

Good Listen
The narrator does a good job, however, mispronouncing military acronyms and terms is noticeable. I attribute this to not being familiar with the lingo.

Amazing Lowell
I just can't put these books down. They just keep coming up on my ipod. I like the Lowell character best: he's filthy rich but is engaged by work in the Army. Confined to staff puke work, he continues to amaze, then punches the pooch. On to book #6, The Generals.
