About this listen

London, 1884. A culprit is on the run after a fatal poisoning in Bermondsey. It seems like a simple case for Penny Green to report on, until a series of macabre photographs is discovered.

As the poisonings continue, Scotland Yard is convinced they have their suspect. It's not long before they're outwitted, and no one is safe. Penny and Inspector James Blakely must avoid the red herrings and track down the manipulative poisoner.

But could there be more than one?

excellent

this is the sixth book in the series that I've read and I've enjoyed every one of them.

Poisoning Perpetrators almost Perfect Performance

Excitement throughout even more than usual between Inspector and Reporter. Don't let this be your first Series book though, at least the second, for the one part to.be more exciting and engaging. The Perpetrator is even more devious than usual. So enjoy.

Excellent

Well I saw that coming almost! Another exciting addition to this series and finally James girded his wimpy self!

Seriously on to the next chapter

Unexpected Murderer

I really like to try to solve these and let’s just state that I didn’t expect some of the twists and turns. I was getting annoyed with Penny, but somehow she pulled it off. Now, what is happening with the men in her world….

What a horrible narration!

Do your best to get past the narrator to the story! The feeling is of a 1st grade teacher enunciating every word very carefully so her students might understand the spelling in later grades. So hard to stay with it.

Frustrating

The narration is clear, and the concept is a good one. But it is really sometimes very hard not to consider Penny Green a selfish self centered B.... She is a reporter, and she's not young (30+ in this era was considered much more mature than it is now). She's well educated and presumably, as a reporter, she's well familiar with society, the culture and the good and bad things that happen. And there are admirable things about her -- she's bold, she doesn't have prejudices, and she doesn't mind saying her piece. But she has to have known the cultural reality of courting someone else's fiance. And her continual insistence that "he can just say no" and a lawsuit for breach of promise would "die down" is absurd. Her inspector friend would likely lose his job. She constantly jumps to a conclusion regarding the crimes and rather than Investigating, feels she's right and everyone else is wrong. The series is enticing enough that I'm now on the 6th in the series. But I'd just like to see Penny Green GROW UP.
